Culvert's WingWall modeling

Hello,

I am trying to model a box culvert with the corresponding wingwalls in the inlet and outlet sections. I've seen on the forum that the most commonly used method to achieve this is by using the Part Builder. I've tried using it by modifying and adding new input parameters to customize the element to my needs, but I have a questions.

How can I ensure that the embankment merges correctly on culvert body and the inlet/outlet wingwall?

I've also attempted to use traditional modeling using the SubAssembly Composer, but I'm struggling to create a pkt for the wingwalls.

2. Could you help me find a way to define a parameterized standard section for the wingwalls?

Let me tackle your first question. This is what I would consider the workflow.

Grade the corridor as usual.
Place a headwall pipe network structure.
Along the edge of the clear zone, trace and drape a feature line along the interception of the corridor grading and the headwall location.
Edit the corridor model to target the feature line.

The second question is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. I've only thought the PKT is used linearly along an alignment/profile so the logic of going perpendicular here tends to make me think this won't work.

Hi Mr. Anderson,

first of all thank you for your interest and your precious support.

I'm still not so skilled with the software but it sounds like I have to repeat this operation for all the culverts i need to model.

Do you know if there's a way to create the feature lines automatically while creating the pipe network (maybe by editing the part builder) or it's something that I have to do manually for each crossing?

I am not aware of an easy way in Civil 3D. Dynamo might help? InfraWorks
has a culvert workflow.

@M_ObradovicAndrew's Dynamo Script places culvert headwalls with consideration of the corridor - but it doesn't clean up the corridor around the culvert.

I agree that culverts are likely best solved with AutoCAD solids - not C3D pipe networks.

thanks for your tip. I'll try to adapt the Dynamo script to my needs. The first issue is the type of culvert modeled (pipe instead of Box) but i think that it's a great starting point.

I'm not sure that I understand what you're trying to do but I'll take an educated guess at what you're trying to do and answer based on my guess.

When you say that you want to "model the culvert", that sounds to me like you want to get the surface contours of the area around the culvert. Is this culvert under a roadway? Are you using a corridor for the road?

If so, I would:

draw a featureline along the back of the wingwalls and drape it to the surface created by the corridor.
create a featureline along the front of the wingwalls at the lower elevation.
make a new surface that is specfically for that wingwall and add these featurelines to the surface.
make a composite surface that consists of the corridor surface and each wingwall surface.

First of all thank you for your contribute.

Maybe the term "model" is not so appropriate in order to explain what I would like to do.

All the suggestions I recieved are very usefull if the number of culverts that have to be represented is small.

Actually I should represent more or less 1200 culverts and it's not managable for me to create an alignment for each and to model each one with part builder and create feature lines one by one.

I was looking for something more automatic, such as Dynamo script, that allows me to insert in my drawing the structure knowing the axis, the slope, inlet and outlet elevation, skewness and dimensions.

By the way I've noticed that there are not so many ways to do that and I'm not able to adapt this approach (Civil 3D and Dynamo—Dynamic Culvert Design and Analysis | Autodesk University) to Box culverts.
