How can I deselect linework from a current selection set, based on color, line type, linestyle etc.., is this possible?

If I have a selection set of a variety of different linework is there anyway to "deselect" certain linework based on color, line type, linestyle and etc..? I'm looking for something that doesn't require me to hold down shift and deselect the hundreds of features I want to deselect.. Is this really not an option? In the example image below, how do I simply deselect the circle but keep the line selected?

Once they're all selected, right click on the screen and choose "Quick Select" from the menu. That will bring up a menu where you can add or remove items from that selection set based on properties of those items.

Thank you but this doesn't work. I've tried this and when I choose "exclude" from a current selection it simply deselects everything I have selected. What am I doing wrong here? I am trying to exclude an "object type" from the selection set, that doesn't appear to be an option in quick select?

Its any drawing, I just started a blank drawing with absolutely nothing in it except a single line and a single circle and when I select both of them, all I want to do is simply deselect the circle and leave the line selected. The formatting of the circle and line are exactly the same, same color, level, linetype, linetype scale, plot style, lineweight, transparency, hyperlink, etc... Can I not just simply deselect certain objects from a selection set? What the heck is the purpose of having this drop down in the properties dialogue if I can see the properties of just the line vs just the circle if I then can't do anything with it? So dang frustrating, just trying to get such a simple thing like this to work.. I wanted to mention that unlike the simplified example below, I have thousands of such features that I want to deselect, so holding down shift and clicking on each of them is a horrible waste of time..

I do not see that we can deselect via qselect.

that being said it looks like the selection set(s) need to be built in phases

What I usually do is use QSelect to prepare a selection set of what I'm going to want removed. Then I do the massive selection and use R(emove) P(revious).

I think I'm getting what you're showing. Does that work if "Apply to" is Current Selection instead of Entire Drawing?

I created a Selection set of a few of the polyline then selected them all

Then on the command line:

Command: SE
SELECT
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 7 found
Select objects: r
Remove objects: p
4 found, 4 removed, 3 total

I could have used QSelect or any other method to create the first Selection Set. You just need to build one of the entities you want to remove after selecting a larger set.

Ok, I figured it out. If you use the QSELECT first and select objects of a certain type and then filter it based on the other properties that does what I wanted to do. It accomplishes the end goal but it is horribly un-intuitive, your first selection option HAS to be the object type and not ANY of the other properties you want to filter for, because you can't filter an object type on top of something else.

Yeah I saw the filter feature but that definitely felt like bringing a gun to a knife fight, way overkill for the simple single selection I wanted to make..

R and P works almost any time you're asked to make a selection. I think it doesn't work with some Civil commands.

I just used Select instead of Move, Rotate, Erase, etc. Since I didn't want to affect the entities.

Yeah. Not a command you'd use if you don't have to. It is useful when trying to build a complicated selection and has the advantage in being able to save the Filter.

Also, it doesn't work with Civil 3D objects.

I wish Autodesk could emulate how this typically works in Microstation, hopefully this is a change that comes to Autodesk products in the future. See below how it is done in Microstation, your Element Selection tool which is used to select anything. You can easily add to and remove linework from a selection set via the various tabs in this tool, so much easier than the Autocad equivalent. There are many things in Autocad that work better than in Microstation but this definitely isn't one of them 😞
