Hi @e_omairquliey, I do not remember having seen something similar in C3D. I must say that in C3D, when we have section views in the model, this also implies we have at least an alignment and, therefore, a surface to show in a section view group. Therefore, it would not be necessary to recreate a surface profile from a section view group since we could simply go ahead and sample the terrain from the alignment.

I think this tool may work perfectly for projects (in 2D CAD) with a missing profile but a complete section view set to work with. So, I must admit it would be great to be able to do it.

My attached photo is a screen shut from land desktop 2009, so that option to do profile existing ground from sections that makes the profile shape is very perfect. So I do not know why Autodesk removes that option from civil 3d?

I did not have the chance to use Land Desktop since I started with Civil 3D 2010. I must admit I did not know either of this interesting tool you posted. In my previous post, I tried to bring sense, from my experience using C3D, to why a tool like this could have been removed. However, I agree with you in that thought that useful tools like this should be preserved.

I've used LDD for just about as long as I've used C3D what is your goal here?

I believe what you really want to do is create sample lines along the alignment/profile. Which can be done to both the EG or FG (Corridor)..... It's been a very long time since I've seen those menus, at least 18 or so.

this profile made from sectionLook at this profile it is made from section it takes the center ground elevation from every station sample and do it in this profile, it comes very elegant. and there is no for surface miss here.

Have you tried the Create Best Fit Profile command?

You can access it from the ribbon by selecting a profile view and it should be on the Launch Pad Panel of the Profile View context tab of the ribbon, or type the command CreateBestFitProfile.

You can select the surface that you want to use as the source, or other objects.

You will probably have to play with the parameters in the dialogue to get a result you want.

If you want detailed profiles as shown, you can create an alignment and profile view at specific locations. Otherwise you will have to use the XSEC tools.

Because civil3d is not Land desk top. Don't expect it to work the same way

It has been a long time since I used Land Desk top but My recollection is a ground profile required an alignment and you sampled a surface. Much like civil3d. The routine you refer to I assume did not sample a surface but a cross section file(s)? Civil3d can read files for profile data, however it behooves you to use that dat to create a surface, then you can sample anywhere within the boundary of the surface, Change alignment geometry and not have to be concerned with rebuilds.

Most will advise : forget about Land Desk top and all the work flows you remember and migrate to civil3d work flows. Your frustrations will greatly diminish

Are you saying you want to generate the existing surface profile from existing cross sections?

There is a tool called xsect2surf that might be a way to achieve this - it will generate a surface from cross sections, which you can then create a profile from.

The 2016 loads and seems to work in Civil 3d 2023. Typing the command xsect2surf brings up the dialogue.

I don't know how the add-in works specifically.

In order to create sections in Civil 3D, you must have either a profile or a surface.

There is no need to create a profile from sections created from a profile because you already have a profile.
There is no need to create a profile from sections created from a surface because you can just create a surface profile.

There are no other options here so that tool from LDD is useless.

I mean, unless I'm missing something here...

Make the ground from your section points

@e_omairquliey Not to be disrespectful. but if you made the TIN from the section points and followed civil3d work flows you would have been done a week and an hour ago.
