Feature line PI question...

In the attached screen shot of the feature line elevation editor, there are PIs that are clear (vs. a green interior shade) that are not editable. What are these points, exactly? These PIs have no crossing or attached feature lines.

Are they crossing ParcelLines in the same Site? Featurelines interact with those as well as other featurelines.

Like @Jeff_M indicated, if your feature line was created based on a "Site" and it is overlapping another Site object, the FL will add the intersecting vertex so the two are coincident. To remove this behavior, you can select the feature Line, and under the contextual ribbon look for Move to Site command and choose Site "None". Then try Elevation Editor again and those extra vertexes will disappear.

I've seen gradings cause vertices like that where they transition from cut to fill.

Definitely a site issue. Your featurelines are crossing other features that are in the same site. Here's an article I wrote about it a while back: https://civil3dplus.wordpress.com/2010/09/06/when-a-site-isnt-a-site/

The feature line is not crossing any other feature lines, and no parcel lines exist in the drawing. Based on a solution I found in another similar forum question, I changed the feature line style to another style and voila! The PIs were suddenly normal PIs in the PI editor. I switched the style back to the original style and they went back to zombie PIs. Switched back to the new style, and normal PIs they became. (<-A nod to Yoda.) So... go figure.

While you found a solution by changing the style, I am curious: have you checked if there are 2 featurelines stacked on top of each other?

I had never heard of style prioritization before. I found it in site properties as you mentioned. Not clear on how that works. Can you elucidate for us, please? Remember, there are no crossing feature lines, if that makes a difference.

Neil, I double-checked if there were double feature lines on top of each other and there were not.

Have you run audit and recover? All layers on and thawed? It sure acts like stacked featurelines. I'll bet if you move it to another site the behavior stops.

Post up a sample file showing the issue so we're better able to assist. I still think it's a site issue.
