Plotting surfaces

Hey guys. Whenever I create a surface and click on any part of it, it highlights the whole surface as if it is one entity. There are several problems I am facing with that.

1) it shows the minor elevations as brown, and the major elevations as green. That is exactly how it plots(in colors) and I don't know how to change it so that the contours plot in black and white without exploding the surface.

2) That creates another issue. If I explode the surface it automatically deletes the numeric labels that I have assigned the contours.

3) Also, even though I assign a boundary to my surface, civil3d automatically assigns its own boundary to my surface which is not the correct shape I am looking for and it shows up on the plot. I cannot delete that boundary, because it is part of that single entity(tin surface). Can someone point me in the right direction?

I have posted the drawing and the surface I am talking about is the pond in the north west corner with the green and brown contours, and the yellow boundary that is assigned by civil3d but not the correct shape I am loking to plot.

The first problem is that was working in template from AutoCAD. It is reason of only see: standard

Toolspace - Settings - Surface - Labels Styles: Contours.

Best is change from template AutoCAD to Template Civil 3D. Use: Manage - Import.

See video for fix.

Civil3d "objects" are just that; an object

Rule number 1. NEVER explode a civil3d object to get a display want. (never explode really for any reason)*

Rule number 2. Always explore the possibilities afforded by the "style" and how to edit

Rule number 3. Understand if you are printing color dependant and object dependant.

Rule number 0. get your prototype style and cad standards in order.

* exploding any acad object should be used as a last resort. the object was originally create to behave efficiently as an object, whether it be a civil obj, block, mtext, yadada yadad.

Dave, I always do add a boundary. In this instance I used the Top of bank as a break line and a boundary, but it always seems to add its own boundary as well. The yellow jagged line following close to the top of bank.

Erik,

You can make the Boundary first, or use Data Clip to make your new Surface Boundary where you want it.

Sweet. That was simple and painless. Hey Dave to get rid of that boundary I was talking about I just froze the layer that said Border and it disappeared. Changed my contours to black....good to go..I have learned a lot this week thanks to all of you guys.

Letting people know how much you appreciate their help is wonderful. You can greatly enhance that appreciation by pressing the Accept Solution button and an occasional kudo. These small acts go a long way in developing comradarie 👍

Yes sir, I get that. I am pretty sure I accepted the decimal places post as a solution and I press the kudos button all the time. I was trying to give Dave an accept as solution on this post but for some reason it did not give me the option. I will try again. I do alot of this from my phone and maybe sometimes it does not go through. I appreciate the input and will try to do better. Sometimes I can't always tell who should get the solution because you all are helpful but I will do better.
