You want to assign the correct coordinate system to the drawing(s). Then use MapIImport to bring in the image. It should then put the images in the correct locations, although you may need to modify the units.

I'm still unclear on what an OSI Tile is. Aerial photo?

Try this. I've attached a Shapefile to a drawing in the ITM Coordinate System. Take your OSI Tile Files and Drag-n-Drop them onto this drawing. Do they come in at the right place? Images can be tricky sometimes.

You won't be able to use GIS data with AutoCAD LT. Use your Map 2017 Trial to bring those tiles into your drawing.

So these OSI tiles, did you get them from here?
http://www.osi.ie/products/professional-mapping/height-data/

Please post a link to the tiles so we can figure out how to get them into your drawing.

Trish,

Yes, I got your drawing, but what is needed now is the data. The problem is that your drawing has no assigned Coordinate System and it's units are in Feet.

The ITM Coordinate System is in Meters, so your data did not come in right in your drawing. Those beautiful Metric Tiles were converted to barbaric International Feet. So if you scale everything in your drawing up by 3.28083989501 then you can assign the ITM Coordinate System to your drawing and all should be good. But the best way would be to get the original data and bring it in to a drawing that is already assigned the ITM Coordinate System.

Trish,

From the Ordnance Survey Ireland site I found this list of Control Points, giving coordinates in both ITM and Irish Grid Systems:
http://www.osi.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/GPS-STN-COORDS_11-11-2015.pdf

The coordinates in your drawing of OSI Tiles looked like Irish Grid Meters, so I converted and placed them in a drawing with an assigned ITM Coordinate System. You'll want to open it with your Trial Version of Map. I don't have AutoCAD LT to test whether it can be opened with LT.

Trish,

OK, here's a step-by-step. Your T50 tiles 11092015.dwg just needs two changes to make it useful. Change Feet to Meters and Assign Irish Grid Coordinate System. Thusly:

Save that drawing and close it. Open a brand spanking new Metric drawing and switch to the Map Workspace (MAPWSPACE). MAPCSASSIGN the ITM Coordinate System. If your Map Task Pane isn't open, turn it on (View Tab >> Palettes on the Ribbon). In the Task Pane, on the Map Explorer Tab, expand Current Drawing and Right-Click Drawings and select Attach. Choose the drawing you saved and closed. Back to the Map Explorer Tab, under Query Library, Right-Click Current Query and select Define. In the Define Query Dialogue Box that comes up Select Location >> All >> OK. Back in the Define Query Dialogue Box, under Query Mode, select Draw and click Execute Query. Your original drawing has now been correctly transformed into the ITM Coordinate System.

There's a lot to do here, so let me know if these steps need more explaining.

Allen,

That link is gold. I've alway had trouble with MAPIINSERT'ing images, and I can't wait to try this out.

I haven't yet figured out what Trish's data is exactly or where she got it on the OSI website. Knowing a little about the original data would be a help.

Hi Trish,

You've ended up in the Civil 3d forum not the Map 3d one. So some of the things shown may not fully apply to your version of Map. Dave gave you the commandline equivalent for Map, MAPCSASSIGN. You can use that to assign the coordinate system to your drawing.

I need to assign the meeters I am ok with coordinates it is pretty straight forward

Dave has got the same version ?? What is the autocad that you use Dave ?

I do not mean to make this streach just trying to apply the rules . It is not easy when you get lost in it

Pat
