Hello,

I've recently came across a problem while converting cad points into COGO points.

The problem is that the block associated with my point as a description that indicates the type of the point, that description is lost when i do the standard procedure to convert Acad blocks to COGO points. Is there any solution to this problem?

Since there are thousands of potential variations of 'cad points' there are thousands of possible solutions. The entire group could guess all day and never accurately describe a solution UNLESS you provide a small drawing with a few of the points.

Can you post a file, without it there's little use in responding to this to get you on the right track.

My first thought would be to replace your block with an LDD point block, then convert.

Really easy using DATAEXTRACTION to get the information out of the CARLSON points you have. See attached DXE template and points

Note: You may want to verify that SRVPNO2 is the only block that you need to extract from in your drawing.

You'll need to delete the first row and the first column, and save or rename it as a csv file. Then import points as normal using the import routine in the create points dialogue

Hi @260078X63RN

You can do it using the Civil 3D Toolset. Using the drawing you uploaded in Post #4, you can do this.

1. Insert a cogo point. You can insert it manually. Don't insert the cogo directly on your site. Insert it on the side of your points. You can give it an elevation if you like, such as 111.00 meters.

Image-1

2. You may change the Point Style and the Point Label Style if you like. I used the point style shown below (Albero style).

Image-2

3. After inserting the cogo point, you'll need to create a BLOCK using the Create Blocks from COGO Points function as shown below. Click OK and Civil3D will insert a brand new block on top of the Albero cogo point. Image-3

4. The new block displays the same information as the Albero cogo point. You can't see the block (it's a tiny point) but you can see the insertion point (blue grip). The block is located in the center of the Tree cogo point. The Properties Palette indicates this new block is named 'POINT.'

Image-4

5. At this stage you want to REPLACE the old red blocks with the new block named POINT. Use REPLACEBLOCK command found in Express Tools. Refer to steps 1 thru 9 below.

***ERROR in image-5: Skip #2, go directly to #3.***

Image-5

6. The replacement blocks (the new blocks) are now in modelspace and they're located at the exact same spots as the former red blocks. Civil 3D considers those new blocks to be SOFTDESK POINT BLOCKS. (IDK why but it does.) In this step you'll replace those Softdesk Blocks with cogo points. To tell C3D where the Softdesk points are located, use a crossing window.

Image-6

7. Here's the final result. The red blocks, the ones you didn't want, have been replaced by Albero cogo points.

Image-7

@ChicagoLooper Trivia:

The reason they're considered SOFTDESK POINT BLOCKS is that's how points were displayed in Softdesk, an add-on to AutoCAD. Autodesk bought Softdesk and renamed it LDT later LDD, Land Development Desktop. So that has been brought forward for those of us who have ancient drawings.

Further Trivia: Softdesk was originally called DCA after it's creator Dave C. Arnold.

I've used them all.
