Hi guys,

I'm having a lot of difficulty with creating a cul-de-sac (this is the first time I have ever attempted one before). I've watched several tutorials and think I understand the concept:

create an alignment for the edge of pavement (EoP)
create a surface profile for the EoP, then create a corridor from the alignment
add the cul-de-sac to the road corridor by adding it's alignment as a baseline to the road corridor, and adding a region
set the road centreline as the lane width alignment target, and the surface profile as the slope/elevation target

problem is, when i rebuild the corridor, it looks like this:

I feel that there must be something wrong with my targets, but I can't figure out what. Without targets set it looks like this:

I'm getting an error message that looks like this in the panorama window:

Any of you good fellows know what could be going wrong? Thanks in advance.

It looks as the same steps you are trying to achieve, and you are doing everything right.

I think you are mixed between left and right targets. I recommend to re-check your assembly first to make sure it is assembled correctly. At your occasion a lane subassembly should be on the right of your baseline. Also also re-check lane's subassembly side to be the right. Then check that targets in corridor properties, that thy right side is targeted to the alignment and it's profile.

Make the CL alignment end at the center point.

Anchor the CDS assembly on the curve and make sure it targets the FGCL profile.

If the corridor samples with the curb inside and the pavement outside, reverse the CDS alignment direction OR make a mirrored copy of the assembly used.

I made a screencast with a way that i use to do cul-de-sacs. Maybe you can solve your problem doing this way. I hope it helps you

Thanks for your speedy reply (and apologies I haven't gotten back to you sooner). I tried what you said but couldn't get it to work. Maybe I'm doing something else wrong...I just can't help thinking it has something to do with the lane width targeting. When I have no target, the sub assembly just goes to the default width I have assigned (3m) and no further - otherwise looks fine, the curbs all line up where I want them etc.

thanks for replying (and sorry for not replying back sooner). I've seen that tutorial - it was well put together and I found it explained things very clearly, I just can't seem to get Civil 3D to do it for me. As I said to John in my reply below, I think there must be something else I'm doing wrong, I just have to figure out what. But thanks both of you for your kind help.

The lane is suppose to target the center line alignment and the fgcl profile but the alignment must end at the center point of the cul-de-sac bulb.

Hi John,

yeah, I've got my lane targeting the roads centreline. The green line you saw in my screenshots going all the way to the edge of the cul-de-sac is a featureline I had tried using as a target because the centreline wasn't working (sorry, it was probably a bit confusing with me leaving it in dwg). Posting a file will get the best results. Even if you strip the file of everything except the alignments, profiles, assemblies and corridor that define the cul-de-sac.

Found out what I was doing wrong with the cul de sac - my cul de sac assembly had the lane pick point on the wrong side - rookie error on my

part. Cul de sac is doing exactly what I want now - thanks again for your help.

Hi Jonas,

found out what I was doing wrong with the cul de sac - I had my cul de sac assembly lane pick point on the wrong side (left lane sub assembly instead of right). Thanks once again for your help.
