Set up what sboon mentioned. But also make sure the surveyors understand they HAVE to stick to the coding or you will have a mess. Either the line work won't work at all or will connect to another simular point.

I would suggest getting the accent book for surveying. It helped me get the items set up that sboon mentioned.

Yes and No.

Setting up the software to do this will require a fair bit of work. You will need a Description Key set which will assign layers, symbols and labels to cogo points as they're created or imported to a drawing. For drawing the linework you need to build a Survey Figure Prefix Database. All of your survey data will be imported to a survey network and the figures will be created there and then added to your drawing. NOTE - all of this presumes that your field crews are using an agreed upon set of codes, and they stick to it.

Once all of the setup is done the actual drafting is simple enough. Import the data and then clean things up - rotating symbols and editing linework as necessary.

Steve
Please use the Accept as Solution or Kudo buttons when appropriate

Sounds like too much work for what I'm doing. Thanks tho. I can bring the points into a program called Terramodel and select auto draft by point description, super simple. Autodesk should consider allowing this command. You can autodraft by layer point type, description, elevation, handy little thing to have.

Add it to the Civil 3D idea station. I'll vote for it.

If you have a lot of data and connection by description would help. There is kind of a workaround. You can open a PNEZD CSV file in Excel and delete the point #'s (or start with an NEZD file). Sort by description and save the file. Import the file letting Civil 3D assign consecutive point #'s. Now all of your say BC shots are consecutively numbered and you can draw by point number range.

It's best to do this in a new file then copy the lines to your existing file so you don't have duplicate points under different numbers.
