Vertical Exaggeration Issue

Good afternoon, I'm trying to get an topographic map created from point cloud data that I created a TIN surface with. I can get the map to be 2D and the colors to change based off elevation but I cannot seem to get the vertical exaggeration tool to work. When I highlight my surface I try to adjust the exaggeration but nothing happens. I appreciate any help. Thank you

Thank you for the reply, I tried to adjust the triangles under surface styles and also tried under point cloud styles. I couldn't seem to get the elevation to be exaggerated still. If I post my file would you be able to take a look at it? Thanks for the help.

I have got the triangles to have exaggerated elevation through the surface properties and changed the elevation in the analysis tab. However now the triangles are 'floating' above my point cloud that has my coloring based off elevation on it. Is there a way to get the elevation coloring on top of the triangles? Thank you

Unfortunately I am not getting it to work either. If you go back to where you exaggerated the triangle, got to the analysis tab. In the analysis tab you can exaggerate the elevation banding, slope banding, etc.

I exaggerated all of them and only the triangle seem to be effected. Looks like a good question for a service request?

Have you tried using a shading (the little control in upper left of drawing screen)?

Colors in elevations are similar to hatches (with no display elevation) or they are wire mesh. Shading will turn the 3d faces and mesh to show solid colors in model view.

Thanks for the reply, I have shaded the triangles so they are one solid color. However I would like my surface triangles (That have an exaggerated elevation) to have the same coloring that my point cloud does. Basically so I could look at the map and tell what areas were higher or lower based off of color and physical height. If I could raise my point cloud it would look okay, but it stays down when I exaggerate the surface. The attached picture shows the point cloud in the bottom with the elevation colors, and the surface up above exaggerated. I would love a 'hybrid' of these two. Thank you.

You can exaggerate the Surface that is based on the Point Cloud. But you can't exaggerate the Point Cloud. So for elevation shading you'll have to use the method described by @Joe-Bouza.

Thank you for the reply, so is there a way I can put elevation shading on the surface? I used the method that @Joe-Bouza stated to exaggerate the surface but can't get any elevation shading on it; just on the point cloud. I appreciate the help from everyone here.

I don't deal with Surface Exaggerations. But it looks like @Joe-Bouza got it to work. Do you possibly have 2 Surfaces?

I checked and only have one surface. From reading @Joe-Bouza's comments I can't find where he got it to work. I was under the impression he was having the same issue as I am. Basically got the elevation to be exaggerated but couldn't get the shading to be on the actual surface. Thank you.

I read it that he could only get the shading to work on the triangles and nothing else. We'll have to wait until he confirms. I might get a chance to try this tomorrow.

Oh okay I see what you mean. I've tried his suggestion and haven't been able to successfully shade the surface, I very well could be doing it wrong though. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Hi @AllenJessup, pardon my poor writing skills , I can only get the triangle to exaggerate. Even though the elevation and slope banding have the option to exaggerate - they do not appear to respect the setting and do not map up to the triangles

_MAPSTATUSBAR will give you a Vertical Exaggeration button. Are you looking for something like this?

Good morning Dave, I brought the toolbar with that vertical exaggeration button that you screenshotted but I cannot get my surface or point cloud to react to it. I don't have the ability to watch youtube at work but I will definitely take a look at the video you linked when I get home tonight. Thank you.

Morton,

What I did was use _MAPCONNECT to bring in an ASC file. I also used a little "Hillshading" with that vertical exaggeration. We're talking about the Map side of Civil 3D here, which doesn't always play nice with Civil Objects.

Hi Joe,

That trick only works on Map stuff, like geotiff images. It doesn't work on C3D Surfaces. There is a world of ways to display a Map Surface to be able to use that vertical exaggeration.
