My query is about how to practically arrange COGO points.
I have read most of the available information, but I think my query relates to practical use.

We have cogo points specified for trees, light posts and raingardens on a drawing. I understand that point numbers must be unique integers.

I have currently 47 points. Points 1-14 are light poles, 16 - 35 are trees etc.

Ideally I would prefer to automatically have LP 1- 14 (and add to this list) T1-19 (and add)... etc. I am using point groups.

Apart from manually updating one of the description parameters for every tree and using that, is there a way to have automatic update to the next tree number, whilst keeping my arrangement as above?

I have attached a pdf of one of the drawings for explanation.

HI Mike,

I agree that separates them, and your method is the approach that I have taken for now. However, I would like to be able to make it easy, eg to refer to trees 1-20 and make it simple to see that there are 20 trees total.

Regards,
Jane

Dr Jane Sargison
BE(Hons) DPhil GAICD FIEAust CPEng

[JSA Logo FINAL LANDSCAPE for email 6]

Civil | Structural | Mechanical | Energy | Environmental | Research

Office: Ellerslie House, Level 1, 119 Sandy Bay Road, Sandy Bay TAS 7005
Telephone: (03) 6224 5625
Mobile: 0419 562 619
Email: jane@jsaengineers.com.au
Web: www.jsaengineers.com.au

Hi Jane,

Get your pain point.

Then what about using Point Name Template, the method is:
1. Set Point Name Template, eg "T<next counter>" in extending dialogue, Create Points
2. Set "t*" in With names matching, Include tab, Point Group Properties.
NOTE: Please make sure that Prompt for Point Names is set to Automatic, in Points Creation, Edit Command Settings - Create Points, Commands, Point, Settings.

We can add a letter before number in point names because it is not allowed to give the same number to 2 or more points.

It will the easy way to give points names in line with the number (the start number and number offset can be modified by users) when we create tree points one after another.

Hope that could make your work easier.

Regards,

Mike
