Dear Chicago, this is tremendously exciting. This is very complex and in depth stuff I just watched the video. I will have to watch it several times and take notes but I am certain that I can figure this out with your video and walk away with a wealth of information and a new confidence that I would not have figured out on my own.

I am not seeking sympathy here but I am doing chemo and radiation right now (not feeling well) so I am saying that it may take longer than normal for me to sit down and work at this. So if you will bare with me I would like to keep this post active until I have what it takes to sit down with this, I am really excited about it!

I am going to push my luck a little bit and humbly, kindly ask if you could do a similar video on purging and deleting these block as well as I found myself lost on how to do this. If you don't feel like it it's ok maybe I could reserve that for a future discussion. I have purged drawings before but somehow you were able to somehow specifically purge my blocks and I don't know how you did that.

on a final note, I have decided to begin the autodesk free learning course to prepare me for taking the autocad test at some point.

Hi, I am having trouble creating certain point styles. I have created (wblock) symbols to insert as my symbols in point styles. Some of them work perfectly but some insert whatever symbol cad wants it to and I really don't understand. It is driving me bonkers. For example I have created a symbol (wblock) for a cleanout (save it) insert it in point styles and civil3d inserts a water valve type symbol instead.

And even odder, The drawing that I am working on within this drawing template WILL allow me to insert this same symbol correctly but the template won't

Here is my drawing template and here is the symbol I have created for a cleanout. If you go to point styles under CO (cleanout) you will see a water valve symbol. I click browse.....go to my cleanout symbol and it will not insert...what the heck. However it will insert other similar symbols that I have created.

@ESchomberg

The dwt you uploaded in Post #1 is messy. smh

With a little work, you can get by.

If you really and truly want to do this right create a Block Library for your blocks. Don't CREATE your blocks directly in your dwt, make a separate 'Block Library' then, cut the blocks you plan to use and paste them into your working drawing. You can make a custom block library for a single project or you can make a Master Block Library and add you favorite block as you create or acquire them.

First and foremost, open the JASON GODWWIN.dwt and delete all the cogos using the Cleanout Style. It doesn't matter if the cogo has the correct symbol or incorrect symbol, just delete all cogos using that style. Next, PURGE the block that's named DOUBLE CIRCLE PLUS INSIDE using the purge command. (You want to delete it because that's the wrong block!)

Warning: If there are any cogos still using the Cleanout 'STYLE' you won't be able to delete DOUBLE CIRCLE PLUS INSIDE.

With the Jason Godwin template still open, add the correct block from Post #1. (As you already know, the correct block looks like a thick 'plus' sign inside a double circle. The correct block is in the CLEANOUT.dwg)

Finally, while still in Jason Godwin.dwt, edit the Cleanout cogo Point Style by inserting the correct Cleanout Symbol.

Also, where is the cleanout style? I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with this. I know that when I was in the point style box, I could not figure out a way to delete any of them. I think you mean by deleting cogos...the point styles with the funky names like 26rty576@$....

And to respond to your post...yes I absolutely do want to learn how to do this right. I want to learn everything I can about this software. I do understand you guys replies about my template being messy, it's not on purpose it's because I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I just try to figure things out as I go and apparently making mistakes along the way. This is a very sophisticated, complex software but I feel that I have come along way.

@ESchomberg

If you want to fix your template, the one named JASON GODWIN.dwt, then you'll need to REdefine your CO block. Be sure to redefine while you're in the Jason Godwin template.

You must re-define it because that block definition is currently pointing to the WELL block instead of pointing to the CO (cleanout) block. That means every time you call up the block named CO AutoCAD will follow your pointer and insert the WELL block.

<<Bad pointer means you get a bad block........And bad block means you get a bad point style.>>

It might look like AutoCAD made a mistake when creating the cogo point but he didn't. Why? Because he's inserting the block according to your instructions. It's not the Point Style that's incorrect, it's the block used in the point style.

Make the CO point to the CO block, not the WELL block.

Hey Chicagolooper. I am trying this but I am missing something. I am not sure what you mean by cogos and how to find/delete them. Also under the purge command (purgeable items) I just see a list: 1) blocks 2) detail view style 3) dimension styles etc. I don't understand how you got all my symbol blocks to appear in there. At the bottom it says "there are no purgeable objects. See the find non-purgeable items tab". I do find them under that tab but purge is grayed out. I'm sorry but I'm A bit lost on this, not any experience with this.

Yes sir, this is the part that I actually figured out on my own it's the deleting cogos and purging that I'm stuck on

See, I don't understand what I did wrong or how to fix it. I have a folder under documents called all symbols. I created the cleanout symbol, then used the command wblock and saved it in my all symbols folder. Then I created the CO point style went to browse found the symbol that I created (I never selected the water valve symbol, I selected the symbol that I created and it brought in the water valve symbol instead.

This workflow works on most of my point styles with the exception of this one and it happened like twice before. I don't get it.

Hi @ESchomberg

The water valve block is the BAD symbol.

The double circle with the 'plus' sign is the GOOD symbol.

The solution is to replace the Bad symbol with the Good one.

Here's a video using your Cleanout symbol and your dwt demonstrating how you can do it.

<video-js data-video-id="6349915364112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)

-------------------------------------------------------------

In the future, when building a Point Style, copy the desired block from your drawing named All Symbols.dwg and paste it directly into the dwg file where you create the Point Style. You may even delete the block after it's pasted. Why? Because the process of pasting a block establishes that block's definition and deleting it only removes the block symbol itself, it doesn't remove the block definition.

Once the definition is properly defined, it'll be available for use when building a Point Style. On a side note, you can use PURGE to remove a block definition but you must comply with the PURGE rules when doing so. (Actually it's more like 'satisfy certain conditions' rather than rule compliance when you want to purge a block definition.)
