Profile Vertical Exaggeration

Hello,

I am having an issue with the vertical exaggeration in my Profile View Style. When the profile is set up and the style is assigned it is set at the correct vertical scale (i.e. 1:10) and exaggeration. However, if the drawing scale is changed the exaggeration stays constant, instead of the scale. The vertical scale adjusts itself in the style to make the exaggeration work.

For example, if I set up the profile at 40H:10V and want to switch to 30H:10V, the vertical scale switches to 1:7.5'

I tried to track down an existing answer, but the only relevant issue was turning off the "Split Profile View". I've made sure the setting is turned off in the drawing.

I've attached the file, if someone would like to look at it.

Where are you setting the vertical scale? As far as I know, you set the drawing scale and the other setting is the exaggeration. It appears to be working as designed.

The profiles work by setting a an EXAGGERATION VALUE in the style. This factor is multiplied by your current drawing scale. The file that you've posted has an exaggeration value of 5. Given your current horizontal scale of 1"=40', that means that the vertical scale will be 1"=8'.

The three most common exaggeration values that I've seen are 1 (not exaggerated at all), 2 & 10.

If the horizontal scale is 1"40' these values would result in vertical scales of:

1 - 1"=40' (v)
2 - 1"=20'(v)
10 - 1"=4' (v)

If you then change the horizontal scale to 1"10' the vertical scales would change as follows:

1 - 1"=10' (v)
2 - 1"=5' (v)
10 - 1"=1' (v)

Maybe I'm crazy, but this is how I remember it working in the past.

The vertical scale is set in the Profile View Style. When the vertical scale is changed in the style the exaggeration changes accordingly based on the current horizontal scale.

When the horizontal scale is changed, the vertical scale is supposed to remain constant, and the profile stretches to the appropriate exaggeration to match the new scale. Going from 40:10 to 30:10 should change the exaggeration from 4 to 3, for example.

This dwg, and other files in our office, are modifying the scale to maintain the exaggeration. The example below shows what happens going from 1:40 horizontal to 1:30.

Since the first time I ever used C3D (2012), the exaggeration value has always remained constant when changing the horizontal scale in every version I've ever used. Honestly, I wouldn't want it any other way -- this way the profiles always look the same except for the scale changes.

If you're saying that it didn't used to do that for you, then maybe there's a setting somewhere that tells it to hold the vertical scale and change the exaggeration. But I don't believer there is.

That's really weird. Not only do I remember the profiles changing vertically when the hor. scale changed, but I set up our Profile View Styles at X:2. X:5', and X:10', expecting the exaggeration to change. The templates were created way back in v08, but I know it worked at one point.

Unless there is a setting for this, I guess the only work around is to have a style for each exaggeration, instead of scale, correct?

Doni is correct and these functions have not changes since the original release as I recall. Perhaps someone led you down the wrong path.
