how to create pipe network using excel sheet data

Hi,

I want to create pipe network model using excel sheet data, and excel sheet data contain pipe material,diameter of pipe,inverts,manhole,manhole rim.but i don't have surface as well as alignment also.please help me.

In the list of all data what you mentioned I do not see the coordinates of manholes. Do you have them? As well as kind of topology information about pipes; what are the starting and ending manholes for each pipe. Maybe you can attach part of Excel sheet with the data.

Would you like to consider 3d party solution based on AutoCAD/Civil 3D? Take a look at Urbano software on YouTube:

I'd split that XLSX file into two CSV files, UpStream Manholes and DownStream Manholes. Then Import the two CSV files into the free <<<QGIS>>>. In QGIS you can Export this data as a Shapefile. (and even assign a Coordinate System.) When you have a Shapefile you can use <<<This Blogpost>>> from @Anonymous to Map your data into a Pipe Network. You don't need to have a surface or alignment.

Similar like PointDump I extract from XLS part with manholes (unique list) - (using Exel remove duplicate). Copy those two XLS to TXT. Then with program Urbano import from text files the complete network.

Didn't have enough time to finish (I am going to soccer game with my son), but have complete network, all the data, label the whole system, draw all profiles.

Need to put correct manholes/structures. This is missing. And come checking and fine tuning. Everything I finished in 20 minutes.

I attached the dwg which I get.

Ok, now I have to time to finish bit more your example. I read all the data. For pipes I assume concrete pipes and assign correct diameters. About manholes it is bit unclear what does mean diameter - outside, inside? Ok I did something. You have labels, profiles (115)... To make really correct system which is approx 28 km long, need more data about both pipes and manholes.

Seems to me correct and nice network.

I attach DWG with everything.

At the end I converted Urbano network to Civil 3D (2016). Here I had more problems with part lists. So they are not correct, because I do not have proper values in my part list (and to add new ones it is bit complicated in Civil). It is more or less testing, so thing not necessary. In C3D you do not have labels neither profiles. To draw 115 profile in C3d, it is time consuming job.

Hi,

I did split that XLSX file into CSV files. Upstream manhole and downstream manholes. Then Import the two CSV into QGIS and converted into shape file also but in “TASK PANE” “TABLE” was not highlighting. I skipped that step then I used “IMPORT GIS DATA” but in this 4th step “DATA MAPPING: PIPES “in this step I am unable to add means it was not highlighting to anything. Please help me for this step.but i created manhole successfully but i am unable to create pipe.and i split that XLSX file in to CSV files with upstream and downstream with pipe data while converting.but i do not know where i did mistake in these steps.Please help me .

If you want to see the Table in Task Pane you need to use _MAPCONNECT instead of _MAPIMPORT.

Think that you did something wrong. When I uncompressed RAR what you attached, I found only two SHX files. It is not sufficient to do anything. You have to have more files. SHP (geometry), DBF (data), SHX....

And for both of elements - manholes and pipes at least 3, means all together 6 files.

As Drazen says, a shapefile will have, at a minimum, a .shp, .shx, and .dbf file. The .shp and .shx files are for the geometry and the .dbf file is for the data in your spreadsheet. A .prj is also useful to assign a projection to the geometry, which allows you to tie your drawing to the real world.

OK, I created two shapefiles in QGIS that put your CSV spreadsheet data into .dbf files. Please drag-n-drop the .shp file from each zipped folder into Civil 3D.
