I can't replicate the issue. A few thoughts. Do you see the issue if you create the new layer from the command line version of the layer command or the CLASSICLAYER command?

If you can share your drawing I can try to replicate the issue from my side.

Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out to the forum.

Is this specific to certain drawings? As suggested by Brian, please share the drawing so we can take a look.

I'm in the process of reinstalling. It was happening in every drawing, using any template. Out of the box templates, custom templates and existing drawings were all giving the same error message.

I have customized menus from years of working in C3D and one 3rd party add on that i've also been using for years. So this appears to be a menu issue not a drawing issue.

I will update if it reappears. I've never seen this type of error before, hence reaching out to the group.

The layer manage is intensive on your graphics system. Try turning hardware acceleration off in the 3DCONFIG command.

I have seen this issue before (not the exact message) and it is usually memory / graphics related.
Sorry Brian, but that didn't help, new nvidia driver updated yesterday. Issue persists. I will be getting a new computer (prescheduled upgrade) next week. Maybe this will be an issue isolated to this particular unit. I will update this thread if it that "resolves" my issue.

Just throwing my hat in the ring to say I have the same issue and get the same error. Updated the Nvidia driver for both cards in my machine last week to make sure it worked with my current software, and installed Civil3d and AutoCAD 2025 this week. Only one other person at my office uses 2025 and he gets the same error. We are on two vastly different machines using Civil3d and AutoCAD 2023 (don't trust even number releases, so I skipped 2024) currently and it works flawlessly (well no Autodesk software has ever been flawless, but you know what I mean.)

I have uninstalled, re-installed and checked to see if there were additional updates but it appears I am up to date.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

(edited to add doc showing the error and text grab from the expanded detail button)

Hi Michael, you mentioned when you uninstalled you deleted the associated folders in the ProgramFiles & ProgramData, but I'm curious if you deleted the ones within the Roaming & Local Appdata folders? Also, I know that uninstalling does not remove the Registry Keys either. If all else fails and you're looking to uninstall again, you might want to try the steps listed in the Autodesk article (you'll have to search for the folders for C3D 2025 though since the article hasn't been updated to the current version):

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-perform-a-clean-uninstall-of-Civil-3D.html

V,

I appreciate where you are coming from and if this was a one off issue only effecting me I would tend to agree with your direction. But that being said I'm seeing quite a few other people with the same issue not to mention I have a friend in third party apps who told me they are having fits due to the new framework ACAD is built on.

I honestly do not think a situation that requires as thorough cleansing of the pc as you suggest should be required from a new release.

Thank for your insight though, much appreciated.

Yes the update was included in download executable. but i see I have a V.58 whereas you show a V.72. I had done completely new download of the software after I deleted the original. Will investigate.

Yes it is the AutoCAD update to 2025.0.1 rather than the Civil uprate to 2025.0.1. May not make a difference but the Layers are a core AutoCAD thing not specifically Civil
