Good morning all,

Has anyone set a Leica ts15/16 in Equipment database? if so, I'd really appreciate that someone told me the values, such as refractive index or wave constant, that are not in the datasheet. it's for traverse analysis.

Regards,

Yeah I'm looking for the same thing. It'd be very helpful if Autodesk had some sort of "typical" settings for the more popular equipment.

I have both a TS15 and 16. For the 15, I used the following settings and got a least squares adjustment to "work" on one of my surveys, but I'll be honest I'm not 100% sure of my settings either. I do know that it also matters what prism you're using. I'm using Leica GPR-111 prisms in my traverse which has a true prism constant of -34.4 but a "Leica prism constant" of 0, which only makes the settings even more confusing.

Hoping someone else can help. Here is a screen shot of my TS-15 settings

Just use the defaults. There probably more restrictive to a degree... I've not change what those are in 20+ years.

Here are some additional information: technical data for the TS-15, Leica Prisms and the Equipment Database Dialog help section from Autodesk. They have some notes of mine as I've been trying to work though this myself. Maybe we can work through it together and someone can chime in.

Here is what I THINK are the correct settings for my TS-15. Again, I use the Leica GPR-111 prisms. I run traverses using the Automatic Target Aiming (ATR) Setting taking shots on the Averaging measure mode (but let's assume SINGLE mode for this settings discussion) and with the LOCK target aiming setting.

UNITS

Distance: US FOOT (this setting is CRUCIAL to get right. I survey on Massachusetts State Plane coordinates which uses US FEET as the unit. Regular "FEET" or "INTERNATIONAL FOOT" can throw your survey off)

Angle: Degrees DMS (DDD.MMSSS) - standard setting

ANGLE

Horizontal Collimation: 1 second - I originally left this at 0 because it's a standard setting but I think the ATR angular accuracy is 1 second so I think to represent that it should be 000.00001?

Angle Type: Right - standard setting for most surveyors

Vertical Collimation: 1 second - Same as Horizontal?

Vertical Angle Type: Zenith - standard for most surveyors

EDM

Refractive Index: 658 - The standard setting is 287.96 but the Leica technical data has the "carrier wave" of 658 nm

Wave Constant: 105.45 - The standard setting and I have no idea where to find this information in the technical data

Offset: 0 - Standard setting. Don't know where in the technical data this would be but I also have no reason to believe the TS-15 scope center and EDM center is offset at all

Measuring Device: Scope

PRISM (Leica GPR-111 prism)

Titlting: YES - Standard setting. No reason to think it's otherwise

Prism Offset: -34.40 - GPR-111 Leica constant = 0.0 therefore the absolute constant is -34.40. See below

(K_leica = K_absolute + 34.4) : (0.0 = K_absolute + 34.4): K_absolute = 0 - 34.4 = -34.4

Prism Constant: -34.40 - Same as Prism Offset for vertical distances

STANDARD DEVIATIONS

EDM Proportional Error: 1.50 ppm - EDM Measuring in STANDARD mode has a standard deviation for standard prisms of 1 mm + 1.5 ppm (Leica Technical manual)

EDM Constant Error: 0.0010 meters - EDM Measuring in STANDARD mode has a standard deviation for standard prisms of 1 mm + 1.5 ppm (Leica Technical manual)

Centering Error: 0.0015 meters - Standard Setting. I guess this depends on the tribrach you're using. I'm using a Leica GDF322 with a "torsional stiffness" of 1 second. I'm assuming that means if I'm centering over a point 2 meters down, the most I'd be off is +/- 1 second which is less than 1/100000th of a meter so keeping the standard error seems safe to me.

Target Alignment Error: 0.0010 meters - ATR Targeting Base Positioning Accuracy = +/- 1 mm (Leica Technical manual)

Pointing Error: 0.005 (5 seconds) - From the Angle Measurement section of the Technical Data, 5 seconds is the largest error. Maybe with single or averaging shots the error is as low as 1 second?

Horizontal Circle: 0.01 (1 second) - The Display Resolution for any horizontal reading is to the nearest second

Directional Error: 0.00486 (4.86 seconds) - From the Angle Measurement section of the Technical Data, the standard deviation for a 5 second accuracy is 1.5 mgon. 1 mgon = 3.24 seconds therefore 1.5 mgon = 4.86 seconds

Vertical Error: 0.00486 - Same as directional error

Prism Height Error: 0.001524 meters - I use a 6-ft rule to measure my height of instrument which is graduated to the nearest 0.01 feet therefore the accuracy is to the nearest +/- 0.005 ft which equals 0.001524 meters

Theodolite Height Error: 0.001524 meters - Same as Prism Height error

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
