topic HOW to send a pure surface to client? in Civil 3D Forum

I create the surface with feature lines. Instead of just freeze the layer of feature line, how could I send the client just a pure surface?

Should I create a new file, make data shortcut of the surface---promote---and save as another file? Are there any easy way? Thanks

If I understand correctly, you want a drawing that has just the surface and nothing else in it. If that's the case, use the Create Cropped Surface command. This can create a copy of your surface in a different drawing.

If you just want the surface you could export it as a XML.

Most important - First find out what the client can read.

One contractor wants nothing other than "vector pdf" = export pdf.

Another wanted xml to program the paver.

Some want 3d faces.

Some can only read 'dumb' 2d poly lines. (If it isn't a pretty contour, it isn't a 'surface')

Some want points & breaklines.

Talk to the 'grunt tech' actually using the data. Talking to the head up boss often gets you incoherent answers

"We use the latest version!" "Latest version of what? Generic AutoCAD, Civil 3d, TerraMode?" "I'll have someone call you back."
