Alright do I select one line on the boundary or should I make a polyline highlighting the entire boundary (TOS) of the plan?

I assigned the elevation in the dialogue box that pops up by creating a feature line, is that right? How do I create rays?

...2d file floor plan.

Civil3d is a civil site infrastructure application. When you say floor plan it brings to mind architects and drawing units in inches.

Firs off units have to be dec feet or meters

Now what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Determine an FFE? There are way too many methods to take a stab at

Try to be a little more specific in what you want to do

Yes I need FFE and the units are in meters.

So what I need are elevations at certain points on a given line. The original drawing is not drawn on a building pad or topographic surface. It is all flat. I want to assign elevations to it.

Hopefully that makes better sense?

Not yet. It is not clear what you are trying to accomplish. Post the drawing. If possible do a screencast and explain a bit more.

Ok

you can do this easily with your existing line work and >>>Create Feature line from Object.

start with the boundary of your slab and assign the top of slab elevation

then convert your rays going from the slab to the low points.

what you do not distinguish are the high points... These again and be computed using feature line to the location from the low point and setting the grade.

as you go aroung the floor you may find the need to add more detail.

either way: in the tool space prospector right click the surface collection an create a surface (name it or accept the default "surface1"... FG_Slab seem appropriate to me.

This creates an empty surface if you expand it there are choices of data>>> select all your feature lines>>> right click >>> add to surface as break lines.

Now you can Identify elevations anywhere on the slab.

This is one technique. There are myriad ways to accomplish this. IMHO this method is a good entry level method

Good luck

The steps I followed:

1) Select slab boundary lines and create feature lines (typed in 95.9 or 0.0959m as elevation in the dialogue box that pops up).

2) Typed the command "rays" and selected higher points direction towards low

3) Created surface

4) Selected all feature lines and added to surface as break lines

How do I select points to find elevation at a given point?

Hi @Anonymous. I created a quick screencast (no sound) showing how to create a surface using just feature lines. At the start I already made the boundary (TOS) breakline. There was already a surface I created so I just deleted the breaklines and added the ones I created. Then I used surface label to show elevations. Hope this helps.
