topic Different result from 3d solid generation when it is generated from data shortcut in Civil 3D Forum

So I have a corridor that I am using 3d solid extraction. When I extract the solids from the source file, it looks like this:

When I data shortcut the same corridor into a new file and extract the 3d solids from the data shortcut corridor, this is what I get:

Not sure what the issue is, tried having the generation dynamic in the shortcut file and changing the range start and this and that but nothing changed the solid. But when I go to the source file and create the solids and choose extract to existing file and put it in the same file as the shortcut, everything is fine. Very weird.

Hi @peterfarkas, This is pretty weird. Let me ask you: Is there a vertical curve at the end of the layout profile, and does the end curve coincide with the end of the corridor baseline? If so, try to extend a bit the layout profile to see if the software manages to read the DREF from the source file properly.

I hope this helps. Best regards!

Hi. I took a look and the end of the corridor is in a vertical profile curve. Both the alignment and the profile extend much longer than where the corridor ends, but your hunch with the corridor ending in a vertical curve on the profile was right. Not sure what to do about it, cant rework the profile so that I could end in linear portion.
But I ended up extracting the solids in the source file and moved them to the file with the shortcut. Not a major inconvenience, but now the solids are non dynamic, which would have been nice to have.

Hi @peterfarkas, it's pretty good you could solve the problem. I'll try to explain in the following image what I thought was the problem because it happened to me:

When I had this kind of configuration (see previous image) and created the data shortcut, the corridor looked like the one you showed in your post. Back then, I inferred that somehow, the combination of three factors was causing the issue:

1. The end of the vertical curve coincides exactly with the end of the horizontal alignment

2. The corridor is built until that same previous station where both the vertical and the horizontal alignment end.

3. Somehow, the software misinterpreted the decimal places for the end of the three elements (horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, and corridor), causing the corridor to spill.

I cannot certainly say that these previous remarks were right. Anyway, I ended up pulling my corridor back 2mm, and the issue was solved.

Best regards. Have a good day!
