Fatal Error: Using Hatch Command

When using the hatch command on a particular set of drawings, I get the following error.

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at f1299833h

This error appears when using the hatch command, not actually hatching an object, or at least it does not allow me to get that far.

Run Recover on those drawings.

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD Civil 3D forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

You didn't tell us what version Civil 3D you were using but, I suggest making sure your software is updated with the latest hotfixes and also try running purge + audit on those drawings to see what the results are. Hope this helps.

I would recommend turning off the hatch preview using:

HPQuickpreview = off

I've noticed that by turning this off, it solves a lot of the crashing issues.

it's not the good solution with HPQuickpreview = off, cause we can't see the hach.

the best solution is : HPQuickpreview = 0

You can always right click and hit preview after selecting your desired hatching area.

The issues come with the HPQUICKPREVIEW when you have a drawing with a lot of objects in it (a topo map with a bunch of design features for example) and the program tries to fill in all of the objects that you hover over to show you a preview of what it would look like. It is my experience that having on the quick preview frequently leads to fatal errors in drawings that have anything more than a few objects in them.

I'm not sure the version of AutoCAD that you're using, but in both 2017 and 2018 you only have an OFF or ON option, and not the 0/1.
