Another way to handle this would be to create the rounded rectangle as a block and anchor it to the structure number. A bit kludgy but could work in other situations.

Possibly you could add an idea to the Civil 3D Ideas forum to be able to set the dragges state options by component.

Labels - As Composed vs Stacked Text

In the "as composed" image, you will see that I have a rounded rectangular border around the first line of label text (structure number) as desired. However, the label text doesn't mirror correctly when the label is dragged to the right side of the object.

In the "stacked text" image, you will see that the label text mirrors nicely on whichever side it is on. However, the rounded rectangular border is removed from the number label.

In the past, most label styles were simple text, so setting the Dragged State to "Stacked Text" was a no brainer and worked fine. But with this different style required, this simple task seems basically impossible. Maybe I am just too ignorant to know what I am doing wrong, or perhaps Civil 3D doesn't seem to have the ability to work around this basic label style problem.

But the problem seems much too pedestrian for an advanced program such as this to not have addressed. Just what is so difficult about allowing the labels to mirror neatly as in the "stacked text" setting while still allowing the settings to display as in the "as composed" setting?

Inthe dragged state components. Do you have the Border Visibility = True and the Type = Rounded Rectangle?

Setting those as you specified will produce a border around the entire label text (see attached image), as opposed to the desired border only around the number (shown in the "as composed" image)...

Can you post a dwg with the label style used in it. Strip out everything else. I'll take a look at it in the morning.

Have 2 styles, one for the left, one for the right. When creating the second style, make it a Child of the first, that way you need only change the anchor points and X offset. Pretty easy to swap the style used when needed.
