Grading To Surface Issue

I tried to grade a feature line to an existing batter horizontally, no matter how I'm doing it but it doesn't give me a proper grading to surface. I have no problem grading to a surface of a feature line that is above or under the surface but in this case, my feature line is in kind of middle of the batter surface which gives me funny results.

I graded my feature line horizontally to a distance and used the minimum distance between surfaces to clip the surface as a workaround but I'm still wondering why Civil 3D can't do this grading.

More detail would help.

I am not sure what you mean by batter.
Which feature line(s) are you grading from?
What are your grading criteria?
- Cut
- Fill
Grading objects are tricky at sharp corners.
Including the magenta curves might help.
A sample drawing would help a lot.

I am not sure what you mean by batter. The surface around the feature line, yellow in attached drawing
Which feature line(s) are you grading from? yellow one in the middle
What are your grading criteria?
- Cut
- Fill I tried every single of them and no luck

Hi @SaeidHajahmadi

I used one of your Grading Criteria with name "Grading to Distance.1" and worked. The grey is the surface from the grading tools and the blue is the the surface that found inside your file. For this sample i used the yellow feature line. Can you tell exactly what to you want to do?

What grading are you trying to achieve? 10:1? 100:1? 1000:1

The east end is in fill. and the west end is in cut.

I wanted to extend my feature line with 0% grade to the surrounding surface. I find a workaround so I extended it by using grade to distance and finding minimum distance between surfaces but I'm not sure why grading to surface is not working

Hi Saeid, it looks like the reason why the grade to surface at 0.00% isn't working is because the existing grade is higher than the elevations on your feature line (feature line=362.50, Existing Surface ~ 362.56):

You'll need to modify these to be able to get your feature line to daylight at a 0.00% slope.

Thanks for your response, Silvestre. I tried in higher elevations and the issue is still there. I realized that grading to surface only works if the feature line is above or under the surface, and won't work while surrounding by a surface.

Hi Saied, I'm not sure what elevations you had used, but when switching the elevations on the featureline from 362.50 to 363.50 at 0.00% daylight to the existing surface works:

Thanks again Silvestre. I'm not sure what was I doing wrong. I was doing exact the same procedure, but I was getting the wrong results.

The only things that I'm sure of is that my feature line wasn't a proper one. I tried to create a tidy and clean feature line and it worked this time.
