There are 2 surfaces in the zip file linked below.I tried pasting these 2 surface together to a new created empty surface. But when i paste them, there appears 4 gaps as is seen in the attached snapshot. Then i tried to apply show boundry on these 4 islands but then it fills with someother surface is not the right surface.

How can i paste these 2 surfaces properly?

Thank you

for the combined surface , add points to the surface with any elevation then delete them again.

also , check the surface properties --> definition--> build --> use maximum triangle length ---> NO instead of YES

Dear Friend,

Select each of your individual surface and view them on object viewer. You will see holes or hide areas on both surfaces.

Pasting surfaces does not mean that it fills blank area in a surface by the other.

For example say like this.

You have 2 surfaces X and Y.

You create a combined surface called P.

You paste X first and then paste Y to surface P.

Now the governing surface is Y. The surface will show data in Y as surface data until the initial boundary of surface Y. After that it will show the data of surface X if it lies beyond.

Similarly in your case you have hide boundaries in your surfaces. But hide part is not filled by the other surface since it is in the surface boundary.

What I can suggest you is this.

In the larger surface remove all the hide boundaries in the middle part (retain only the outer boundary) and then use paste surface option.

Make sure you paste smaller surface last.

Thanks

if you can check the surfaces there is no boundry applied for both of them.

No there is a boundary.

It has been added prior to import the surface as land xml.

Select your larget surface.

In your ribbon you will find an option called 'Extract Objects'.

Extract the boundary only from the larger surface.

Then you will get set of 3D closed polylines.

In the middle of the surface you will get few extracted polylines. Delete them and retain only the outermost polyline. Add it as a boundary to the larger surface.

Then create the blank surface.

Add larger surface first.

Then add the smaller surface.

You will be done.

Smaller surface also has hide boundaries. If you don't need them follow the previous procedure to remove them.

Remember last pasted surface act as the BOSS.

Sorry that is not i am looking for.I just want to paste these 2 surfaces at the exact boundary locations.

Because i spent lots of time for editing these 2 surfaces and paste boundaries have to be like sliced at the exact locations.

After i edited those surfaces i created new snapshots and move it to the top in the surface definiton and deleted the rest. I do not understand why it still keeps the original surface data in mind...

Thank you

And lets say we did not apply boundaries, edits etc.. to both of these surfaces and lets assume that these surfaces directly come out from survey data as it is. What would be the way to join these surfaces then?

Hi Umit,

You need to understand that the last surface you paste will always be the one governing. With that in mind, it means if the 2nd surface you paste have a hole then combined surface will be created including the hole in it.

I posted a screencast to show a quick workaround to solve this issue and it needs a correction surface to solve the problem.

Cheers,
Jowenn
