Hi troma,

I recently posted a reply to a similar issue that another user had. Please follow this link; maybe the response might help you in some way. Just in case the other thread disappears, I'll paste the response here as well.

@MauCabrera789 wrote:

I just had a very similar problem and was looking for a solution. Unfortunately, very little input was found in multiple threads.

I was updating my surface (which takes an auto-feature line as input) and noticed this feature line was not updating anymore with elevation changes. Further investigation revealed the offset alignment that the auto-feature line was based on had broken its Vertical Data ties with the parent alignment. I had no idea what could've caused this, and even re-offsetting additional alignments came out with zero vertical data. This situation seems to be very similar to your issue.

Then I realized I had added a PVI in the parent alignment profile at some earlier point in time (nevertheless after creating the initial surface). I deleted this PVI and the offset alignment snapped back to reality and regained vertical data ties with the parent. I suppose Civil3D did not like the STA I initially placed the PVI on the parent alignment and for some deep internal reason the offset alignment broke. Maybe this is tied with the geometry of your parent alignment; the station of that PVI I added was close to a very sharp turn in the alignment and maybe that caused some issues with the vertical data transfer between parent and offset.

Not sure if you added such a PVI but maybe this answer helps another person down the road!

I used the Offset Alignments to create alignments & profiles at a slope from my centre of road.

On the right, it created an alignment and profile at the correct slopes. And I can edit the Offset Parameters to use different slopes. It goes for the full length of the parent profile.

On the left, it created an alignment, but no visible profile. There is a profile in prospector, but it says the elevation is 0.00m. And even when I create a profile view at zero elevation I still can't see it. The stations in the properties box indicate it only goes half the length of the parent. When I try to edit the parameters, any station I type returns the message "Station is not between profile start station and end station" even though the station is between the stations listed in the profile properties.

Working in 2019.

I think the problem is probably related to the awkward step in the parent alignment. It's making the left offset alignment to be non-contiguous for some reason.

We also got rid of the station equation at that point. There probably were some vertical PVIs around there too.
With the new design, the offset profile worked fine.
