topic Civil 3D 2025 fails to export large surfaces as valid GeoTIFFs due to likely lack of BigTIFF support in Civil 3D Forum

We have an issue we are experiencing with Civil 3D 2025. We have a surface that fairly large, exported as a LandXML file it is about 260mb. One of our team members tried to export the surface out as a GeoTIFF, using the Export to DEM… command and using the Dem file name browser to change the Files of type to GeoTIFF and the export saved a file at 3.99 GB but the file appears corrupt as GlobalMapper and other programs can’t open it. I am assuming that Civil 3D is not using the v6 version of the TIFF libraries that support the BigTIFF format and allow for images larger than 4 GB ?

Is there a way to get Civil 3D 2025 to use the BigTIFF export when writing GeoTIFFs of surfaces ? Does Civil 3D 2026 use the updated TIFF libraries ?

Also we are seeing some odd behavior when bringing that LandXML back into a clean Civil3D drawing, it takes hours to import and is spending a lot of effort ‘Renumbering points and triangle indices..” and throwing 100,000s of events for importing data using its associated source data geometry.

Hi,
I hope this workaround should work for you.

Sadly BiggTiff Export is not supported in Civil 3D. You will have to export the DEM to QGIS or Metashape Pro to re-export to BigTiff.

For your LandXML Import event errors, I recommend tweaking the C3D LandXML Surface Import Settings to be "Quick Import":
