Probably not any of these but:

1. Make sure nothing is on a keyboard key holding it down and no keys are stuck. (not likely with multiple users having issue)

2. Reboot PC, if you haven't already.

3. Verify mouse drivers are up to date.

4. Replace the mouse battery or check mouse plug/cord if wired.

5. Try a different mouse (preferably a new plain jane).

Right Click problem.

Hi all,

I am using Civil 3D 2018 and I think there might be an update recently (the last month or so maybe). Not sure if that's the cause of the problem, but several of my coworkers and I have recently experienced some weird behaviors with our right-click function. The first attached image showed my right click settings, which has been the same all along.

So randomly, when I select some civil 3D pipes (This happens to other none Civil 3D objects too), then right-click, say I want to go to "Object Viewer". As soon as I right click, my previously selected pipes become dis-selected. I tried to wait a few seconds after I selected the pipes and then right-click, and most of the time it worked (remains selected when I right-click) but occasionally still dis-select.

Another behavior with right-click is that it actually moves the selected object (In this case, an x-reference file). So I first select the xref, then move my cursor away and right-click to change the display order to back, but it dis-select again, and the x-reference file is moved to where my cursor is.

Along with both of the above behaviors, in the command prompt, I get a notification saying that a system variable is changed, but then immediately a second line saying that "No system variable is Changed". I go to the sysvarmonitor and load all of the available variables (left) to the monitored window (right), and none of them were changed (Not exclamation mark).

Thanks for any help.

Ben

Press and hold the right mouse button is Deselect. Press the right mouse button and release quickly is shortcut menu.

Tim,

I checked today at work and also changed a few settings with my right-click Customization. It doesn't seem to be caused by holding down right key too long, and the same problems I listed in my original post still persist.

I am especially concerned about that system variable changed warning, though. Any thought on that? Thanks.

Ben

SYSVARMONITOR can be configured to watch the variables you want and ignore others, or it can be turned off entirely.

Many routines you run from the ribbon will change variables mid-stream and then put them back. This can cause the monitor to report that variables have changed.

Tim,

The Right Click Problem still persists. I have attached a sample dwg that has the right click problem. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Charles,

Thanks for your reply.

This problem has occurred randomly for a very long time (one year or so), to multiple employees in my company who use both wired and wireless mouses with the latest drivers. So I think it's safe to say that our external hardware and software are in good shape. I suspect the problem lies internally in Civil 3D.

Please follow the steps below to recreate the problem so you understand what I am talking about here.

1. Open the attached "Right Click Problem" dwg file.

2. Left-click on any text.

3. move cursor away.

4. right-click to bring up the shortcut menu, and randomly, the previously selected object is moved to where the cursor is.

5. In the command prompt(See attached "Command Prompt"). it says a system variable is changed, but then the next line says no system variable is changed (why the conflicting message anyway?). I looked up sysvarmonitor and nothing is changed.

Step 4 can also be achieved by selecting an object, hold right-button, drag, and drop, with a window popped up asking if you want to move or copy(See attached "Right-click hold drag drop").

My right-click settings can be seen in the attachment in the first thread I posted.

Thanks.
