Layer States reverting back on save

Hi everyone,

I am currently having trouble with my layer states in a Viewport.

I currently make the viewport active in paperspace, apply the layer state (all looks good at this stage) - but when I hit save, it regens and reverts back!

(Please refer to the attached screencast and images)

Basically the only change is to the VP color on my pipe within my pipe networks (d'ref into this dwg).

Any help would be much appreciated as it's starting to drive me nuts! 🤣

Check your Visretain system variable.

VISRETAIN (System Variable)

Controls the properties of xref-dependent layers.

Type: Integer
Saved in: Drawing
Initial value: 1
Controls visibility, color, linetype, lineweight, and plot styles.

The layer table, as stored in the reference drawing (xref), takes precedence. Changes made to xref-dependent layers in the current drawing are valid in the current session only and are not saved with the drawing. When the current drawing is reopened, the layer table is reloaded from the reference drawing, and the current drawing reflects all of those layer property settings.

Xref-dependent layer changes made in the current drawing take precedence. Layer settings are saved with the current drawing's layer table and persist from session to session.

Thanks Mark,
But the "VISRETAIN" variable is for controlling the properties of XREF layers.
The layers I am changing with the Layer States are in the current drawing.

I think I see what you are doing but it appears to me that it is much easier to copy the viewport and make changes using the viewport's VP freeze, VP Color, VP Linetype. Using this method you can set it up once and not have all of the layers, etc. switching.

Just my 2 cents.

Is that not what the layer states manager is for?
You specify the VP layer states, then apply it to the VP.

I had the same problem. On Paperspace I deleted the faulty vport and then placed the view on the paper again. It worked. My layerstate stuck instead of reverting to gray.
