Yes, I think that should do the trick but I find it tedious to work with this option when you have a lot of different codes and usually I get errors. I also have a question regarding this kind of boundary.

if you make changes between two stations and the codes in this area are different do you have to do the whole boundary again? Can you do two boundaries for the same surface as in one as an Outer boundary for one side and another as a Show boundary for the other side?

Thanks

Hi,

I have a corridor with multiple baselines (10) from different alignments (6) in order to have in the same corridor the main lane and its intersections.

Also, the corridor represents a widening of an existing road where we are trying to reuse the existing pavement, so in some areas, we have an independent assembly for the right side and one for the left side as shown in the image below: 1 represents the existing road untouched and 2 and 3 represents the road widening.

When creating the TOP surface and DATUM surface I came across an issue with the Surface boundaries.

If you select the option corridor extend as outer boundary the surface connects the 2 and 3 filling the gap left by the existing road. Furthermore, the Top surface and Datum surface does not have the same exterior boundary since in some places the Top surface limit has an offset from the alignment inferior to the Datum surface. Example below: Yellow -> EG,
Inferior white lane -> DATUM
Points with point representation -> Top Surface
Superior white lane -> TOP

I would like for the TOP surface to end at the last circumference instead of extending its boundary to an imaginary point that is located on top of the DATUM boundary.

So for these issues right now I have a manual solution which is to create the boundary manually by cutting and joining corridor feature lines. This procedure is painful and each time I want to adjust the station frequency or change some assembly has to be done again.

Do you know of any workaround to this solution for the boundary?

I have thought about using Dynamo or lisp but my knowledge about both is very limited and I do not know if you can use these options for:
1. Selecting feature lines from a corridor

2. Find intersections and which feature line has the greatest or smallest offset at each moment
3. Join the feature lines based on these criteria.

Also, I do not know If am reinventing the wheel here and there is a much simpler approach to this issue.

Thanks in advance

Ferran Casanova

The way you are doing is about as good as any. To make it a little less painful when you make changes to the corridor/gradings, go to surface properties, definition tab, operation type list and find the boundary and move it to be last, if you have internal boundaries move them to be after the outer. Turning on elevations (adds solid colors to the surface) will help find area that need adjusting. The border doesn't have to follow the outer limits of the corridor exactly, just close enough to cross extraneous tin lines. I use 2d polys for borders, easier to edit and maintain. Unless you have made major changes this should be fairly quick to update.

A custom lisp routine should be able to do what you are doing by hand, but you will probably have to write it yourself.

I don't know if I am understanding you right, but isn't the automatically boundary from point code an option for you?

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/civil-3d-forum/corridor-surface-boundary-points/td-p/5694767

Thanks for your response,

Yes, I think that the "best" option, for now, is to do as you say. Another workaround would be to change the SubAssembly.

Once you have established your first boundaries and you know which stations have changed it should not be a lot of work to change only the boundary for those stations.
