YES The key thing was checking the box "apply properties as viewport overrides" in the layer states manager

I found that right after I uploaded this question

Thanks you for the solution

Ok, What I'am trying to do is have a specific layer state for one viewport, and try to apply that to another viewport

When I save a layer state, and go to the another vieport and try to apply that layer states,

it changes the setting of the layers of the whole drawing, not just the viewport layer states

for instance, I have a viewport that has all the lines in color 190 on viewport color

When i go to another viewport, go into model space, and apply that layer state, it changes the color of the layer, not the viewport color

does anyone know wHat I'm doing wrong, and show me the way to do this?

Thanks

You're talking about making a layer state out of a group of viewport overrides. To do this correctly, go to the source sheet. Click into the viewport, then turn the layers off in viewport that you wish. WHIILE STILL IN THAT VIEWPORT, go into layer state manager and create a layer state. Go to the second sheet, click into the viewport, go into layer manager and restore the new layer state you created. Click back out of the viewport and done. This assigns viewport overrides to that viewport, regardless of any other layer state that you make current.

To amend my own experience to this solution, my issue stemmed from trying to "restore" a layer state from inside a viewport (model space). I had been trying to restore this layer state in ANOTHER viewport by clicking the drop down list of layer states in the Layers ribbon panel. After searching through the forum here, I found a mention by Allen Jessup that using the ribbon can sometimes yield different results than going through the dialogue box. He was right. By going into the destination viewport and hitting "Restore" on the bottom of the layer states manager dialogue, I got successful operation of applying the layer state as viewport overrides. Now I'm good to go, in high cotton, straight up whistling Dixie holmes.
