Hello Marwan,

Thank you for replying. It some the files converted to be read as stp, dfx, or dwg CFD won't open them or recogni,ed them as a 3d Object.

I can convert a .stl file to a CAD file (i.e. Geometry or or other 3d object files) that can that can perform a simulations.

Other instances I received an error along the lines ":unable to open the specified geometry"

I was able to run a simulation in the past tgis year, but I believe that was prior to Autodesk's update of CFD. There maybe a process I done that simply don't remember as well.

Hello, I have not been able to convert or create CAD project in CFD in order to create a CFD simulation. I have tried to convert to and open skp, stl, and dwg/dwf to stp and sat files, but no luck. If can't do this then CFD serves no purpose.

Any help is appreciated please thank you!

Hi @jlwilliam352 ,

Just to clarify, are you saying that Autodesk CFD cannot open any skp, stl, and dwg/dwf , stp, and sat files?

Or are you saying CFD cannot convert skp, stl, and dwg/dwf to stp, and sat files?

If you have a model open in CFD you can export the CAD geometry to an ACIS (*.sat) file.

If I misunderstood please provide more detail.

Hello @jlwilliam352 ,

This most probably caused by the CAD geometry.

I usually stay away from stl files because of the sheer number of faces/surfaces.

If you can provide one or more sample files you're having issues with I'd be happy to take a look.

thank you for your help. Attached is obj file and stl file. I've imported a obj file in the past after fixing any issues and never had a problem with CFD until now. I think has something to do with the file type since Autodesk has updated their software recently.

Thanks again for help

This is not due to some change in Autodesk CFD. Those files are strange (tried them in other apps we have) and are unworkable.

Okay, what is the best option to convert a sketchup file type to a readable and operable file type for CFD? I believe converted or saved a .skp file as a .obj file and was able to run it in CFD last year.
