topic How do I demonstrate the effect of 4-direction supply grille towards the air flow in Autodesk CFD? in CFD Forum

Hi everyone.

I'm having trouble simulating the air flow of a 4-direction supply grille in the room. I couldn't get any particle trace result and I'm not sure what is the reason why it doesn't have anything flow in the room.

The component at the center is the 4-direction supply grille, the ceiling was being cut to fit the supply grille because the ceiling will overlap the supply grille if not being cut. The small component at the corner is the exhaust grille, but it doesn't have the overlapping issue. The boundary condition of total heat generation can be ignored as it wasn't the main focus. The boundary condition of velocity and temperature was set on the vertical surface of the supply grille. I have also tried to put these boundary conditions on the square surface on the supply grille case but it doesn't work as well. Any helping is much appreciated.

Fascinating but it's hard to tell just based on the images you attached.

Posting the model would allow us to help.

Thanks for posting the model.

Your Air domain (volumes) do not make sense. You need more. You are missing the main volume between the concrete walls at minimum.

However, there is no flow detected by the particle tracing plane in the room even though I have set the inlet parameter on the square surface of the supply grille. I check using the particle tracing plane and found that the flow is being blocked in the supply grille. I suspect it is due to the model overlapping issue between the ceiling and the supply grille. Is there any way I can keep the air domain without overlapping the ceiling and supply grille models? I will attach the Rivet file and the CFD file just in case you want to check back the original file.

The CAD model needs to be modified so you get the air volume(s) that you need.

I did that for you (maybe not the most elegant way but it works).

Please see attached files.
