Hello Karol,

All modeling was carried out with solid part modeling, both F360 & Inventor.

So the question is why is it being interpretated as a surface, if that is the case.

Thanks

Chris

I have tried searching the forum for the answer, have not found a solution yet.

So I am going to post it here, and ask the question.

I am trying to solve a small section of a heat exchanger unit, basically thermal conductivity through a 316 stainless tube with 2.5mm OD and 1.2mm ID, with a length of 10mm.

Internal working fluid is Air at 900C, the working fluid outside is water at 20C.

This is a small section of a larger heat exchanger assembly.

What I need is the thermal gradient across the tube wall, and how much heat is transferred into the water.

The model is definitely not 2D, I tried sampling a larger section with two tubes with a bent section, in case the model was being interpreted as 2d due to not enough 3D geometry being present.
Same error...

All modeling is being done in both Fusion 360, and Inventor Pro, both latest 2023 installs, CFD is 2021.

What I need is a solvution that allows me to get the simulation done, ie. get rid of the above error message.

Hello Chris,

there is a chance that you create the model using the pure surface modelling technique.

If the software does not have the volume inside the simulation he threatens the simulation as a 2D simulation.

Please check if you have the volumes inside the CAF file, if not just create it.

If that also will not work, attach the file on the forum or send me directly by PM.

Best regards,

Karol

Hello Chris,

I opened the model in Fusion and exported it to CFD without any issues and the warning, the model is very simple so there should not be any problem with using the geometry by the software. I attached the of file.

From that point, I could only suggest reinstalling the CFD, becouse there is a problem with the connector.

Dis you use the CFD add-in to export the body or export it to SAT format?

Best regards,

Karol
