If you plan to run 2D, let's try to do that. How about via .sat?

Or, have you tried importing directly from the CFD interface? Rather than from ProE? Try going to 'new' and browsing to the file 🙂

Good morning,

I am trying to set up a 2D analysis but am running into problems loading the geometry into Simulation CFD 2015. I have created a planar surface in the positive quadrant of the XY plane but when I try to open the .prt file in SimCFD I get the following error:

"The Granite model does not contain any three dimensional bodies.

There are a couple possible causes and solutions:

1. Granite does not support two dimensional bodies. To launch a 2D model, launch from PTC Creo (Pro/Engineer, and use the Mechanica method instead.)

..."

I cannot figure out how to launch from Pro/E (I have Wildfire 3.0). Can anyone offer some guidance here? Attached is the part I'm trying to load.
Thanks,

Reed

I was able to get the file loaded by converting it to a STEP file, but now I am encountering problems when I try to actually solve the simulation. SimCFD successfully meshes and then gets to "processing input..." when it gives an error stating "The Analysis has stopped because the Solver has exited unexpectedly". Any thoughts on what is going on here? Attached are the .cfz and .stp files I'm using.

Thanks,

Reed

Hello,

I think there is something strange with how CFD is perceiving the model - it does not say '2D' within the geometry section of the Design Study Bar.

Have you tried launching using the ProMechanica launcher?

Thanks,

Jon,

It looks like I do not have a Mechanica license, however I'm not sure if it matters as it appears Wildfire 3.0 isn't supported by the launcher (http://help.autodesk.com/view/SCDSE/2014/ENU/?guid=GUID-D8590DE2-90E1-4198-8EE1-5851072BBB3A&_ga=1.58362797.606922790.1433451228). Is there any other way to perform a 2D analysis? My work-around in the past has been to make a thin model that is only a few cells thick with slip/symmetry BC's on the sides, but I am unsure how viable that method is.

Thanks,

Reed

Jon,

I tried the .sat file but there was a miscommunication between Pro/E and SimCFD that made the geometry look wrong. Thankfully I did manage to get it to work by using an IGES file.

Thanks for the suggestions!
Reed
