Hi there thanks for your replies,

There is no issue opening CFD directly, just launching the assessment tool from Inventor.

You can open the CAD Geometry file within CFD with no issue so that might be the way to go from now on. Should of thought of doing that sooner.

My suspicion is something wasn't configured correctly during the install as Inventor sees the wrong installation path for CFD.

CFD / Inventor 2016 - Active Model Tool Registry Entry Error

When running the CFD Active Model Assessment Tool from Inventor I receive the error message in the screenshot attached - "Autodesk CFD cannot start because the required registry entry does not exist".

On checking regedit and the key mentioned in the message, everything seems to be set correctly.

Running CFDConfig.exe fixes the error for the administrator account however as students use mandatory profiles the error message returns whenever they login. I have tried to run scans to see what changes CFDConfig is making to try and implement them permanently but cannot discover what is happening.

Any info or help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

What happens if you right click and run CFD as admin? If that works, you could set that to be the default setting without messing with machine admin rights 🙂

Side question: do you also have problems with double clicking on CFD files (CFD software doesnt open the files out of Windows, only if you open it inside CFD)?

I've had the same issue like the one you mentioned and the only solution was to add the local user for the time of the software installation to the Windows administrator group.

Later on it can be removed.

Marco

Sorry about that, yes I have the same issue.

Double clicking a .cfz file from the desktop brings up the same error message. You have to open within CFD. An admin account can open no problem.
