It was not avaiable for me to download 2017 as a student and I will need to export my model at some point to CFD for my dissertation.

Hello Lee,

I'm not sure what file formats Robot Structural can export.

Autodesk CFD can open CAD models (3D and 2D) in native formats such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, etc...

CFD can also open neutral file formats such as parasolid (x_b, x_t), ACIS (sat), iges, step, etc...

What do you want to do with the model in CFD?
What does your Robot model look like? can you post an image?

You can run this simulation inside Robot or export the corresponding solid model to CFD

Hello Lee,

I take it you are interested in the air flow around the building rather than the effect of wind on the building. Is that a correct assumption?

What does the model look in Robot? By that I mean is the building an enclosed volume?

If you are interested in the air flow around the building then only the external shape of the building would be of interest to a CFD model and none of the internal details. In that case you can create a CAD model of the external shape and bring it into CFD. At that point you can have CFD generate the external air volume needed to run the flow analysis.

I am try8ng to find the product (CFD SIMULATION 2017) which allows me to simulate the wind pressures on my structure

Actually you don't need CFD for this task as you can run this simulation inside Robot and convert generated the obtained pressures into wind load cases which then you can combine with other load cases as per selected code provisions. To do so select 'Generate wind loads' instead of "Simulation CFD) (see the picture I posted previously).

See these movies:
