Getting slightly frustrated here...

All of a sudden CFD just stopped being able to run my solves.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for reaching out to us on the forums! It looks like you set up the simulation to use the CFD2 solver (Scalable Solver). I suggest just using the standard solver. Just select "MyComputer" from the solve dialogue box. The CFD2 Solver still has some limitations and may not be capable of performing the simulation you have set up. It's also built for computers with large core counts; considering your computer has 2 cores it's best to just use our standard classical solver.

Thanks,

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the response. Just seems strange that it was working completely fine, and then without changing anything, continued to fail.

Also, saw the posting regarding the My Computer switch... but my Solver Computers menu looks slightly different (see attached), so please advise with what you believe is the best/correct setting.

Many thanks,

D
solver computers

@Anonymous

Huh, someone must have played with the default settings a bit there. Definitely deselect "Scalable Solver" option for "My Computer". Once this is done try to run your simulation. If the solver still exits then there is probably something wrong with your model setup.

Again, the best setup is "My Computer" with Use Cluster and Scalable Solver deselected.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

Ok thanks for the update. Have you seen this article on why this message appears? It contains 6 of the most common reasons for the solver exit, but honestly this error can occur for probably hundreds of reasons. You said the simulation has been running in the past; what changed between then and now? Where are you saving the project? It needs to be saved to your local disk drive (ie C:, D:), and the working project folder can't my synced with a Box account or anything like that.

If you are indeed saving to your local C drive, I would try running a tutorial model. I usually use the nozzle model and just put a random velocity and a 0 pressure outlet on it. It'll take about 5 mins to run and then you will clearly know whether this issue is model specific or not.

Thanks,

Seemed to be a combination of issues with the Solver selection as well as VPN. I didn't figure out the exact intricacies of the VPN issue, but I'm now running with all network connections disabled (wifi, etc.) and the My Computer computer solvers selected, and all again seems to be working fine.
