Hi @bogdan_ciobanu

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Excuse me, maybe i was not clear enough! ill try to clarify my issue with two screenshots.

First i uploaded the model inside the ''Set & Versie test mappenstructuur'' main map.

it generated all of the sheets published inside that model. Then i made a sub-map structure as u can see in screenshot 1. As a test i 'moved' the TO-101 and TO-102 drawing inside sub-folder '100 - plattegronden'

After moving the drawings to the folder i uploaded a new model inside the main folder ''Set & Versie test mappenstructuur''

As u can see in screenshot 2, for example, the TO-103 sheets got regenerated as Version 2. While the TO-101 and TO-102 sheets i moved to another folder is recognized as new sheet.

The filename, and it's host / linked model are both the same (see the 'bestandsnaam' colomn).

I hope this clarify's the problem. sorry if my english or word chooise is incorrect!

The main issue is that we have so many sheets that i cant have them all in the same map. and uploading a model in every map is also not an option because we want to keep 1 central model.

Thanks in advantage!

Hello,

As the title says, generated sheets from a model do not update as new version when the sheets are replaced in a folder structure. The

The model name, as well as the sheet names did not change a bit.

Normally every sheet with changes automaticly generates a new sheet version.

After replacing the sheet inside another folder, BIM 360 docs creates a new sheet with V1 in the main map where the model is uploaded. Somehow the link between sheet and model is gone.

At the moment we have around 120 sheets, placing them inside a folder structure is a must.

Is there any way to keep the sheets linked with the model even when they are outside of the main model map?

Thanks in advantage.

Hi @r_demooij

Thank you for your post. My name is Bogdan and I am with Autodesk Technical Support.

I am not sure I got this right, please correct me if I am wrong. You are uploading a Revit model to a BIM 360 Docs folder and all goes well. Then, when you want to update some of the sheets the version is not changed?

What is a bit confusing is the "another" folder. By that, do you mean you are uploading to a different folder than the one you initially put your model and sheets in?

Thank you for clarifying.

Best regards,

Thank you for your reply and for clarifying.

I would say that it is the expected behavior when you upload the model. Those sheets are missing from the folder you are uploading to, so version 1 is created.

Have you tried moving the sheets again over the sheets in the subfolder? Doesn't that generate Version 2 in the subfolder?

''

I do agree that this is the expected behavior. But because the sheets are still connectod to the 'filename' (bestandsnaam in my screenshot below). i would say and hope that the sheets are still recognized even when they are moved inside a sub folder.

'Have you tried moving the sheets again over the sheets in the subfolder? The same document already excist in the submap.

If it was the case that i could just move them and rewrite as new version it wouldnt be a problem... but i cant afford losing the issues connected to the sheets.

Thanks in advantage.

Best regards,

R. de Mooij

@r_demooij

I did a little more research and I think I now have the answer for you.

The MOVE command does not work how you were expecting it. The MOVE command carries all versions, not a specific version. We don't allow moving a document (with all its versions) to a folder that contains a document of the same name, because it could generate a lot of problems with the file versioning.

The good news is that we can use the COPY command to help you achieve your goal here.

Here's how COPY works: as a user, I can copy a specific version of a document from one folder to another so that I can share that specific version with users that should not have access to every version of the document.

For example, an architect will create multiple versions an of a particular document in a "WIP" folder but will want to share specific versions with the client (say, every two weeks) in a "Share" folder. The architect doesn't want the client to see every single version but rather wants to share specific versions for the purpose of meeting contractual obligations or for managing review comments.

If the architect's WIP folder has 10 versions and the architect selects "Copy," the copy of Version 10 will be Version 1 in the "Shared" folder.

After another 12 versions are created in the WIP folder, the architect again selects "Copy" and copies Version 22 to the "Shared" folder. This will become version 2 in the "Shared" folder.

Another example: If the architect's WIP folder has 10 version and the architect selects "copy version" for Version 8, that will be Version 1 in the "Shared" folder.

After another 12 versions are created in the WIP folder, the architect again selections "copy version" (this time for Version 20) in the "Shared" folder. This will become version 2 in the "Shared" folder (edited).

Similar in your case, you can keep uploading all the files to the same main folder and then copy those that you want to the subfolder. After that, I assume you can just delete the duplicates from the main folder.

Hope this was helpful.

If my post helped you, please click on Accept as Solution to validate it so others in the community can find it and benefit from it easily.

Best regards,

@bogdan_ciobanu,

Thanks for your answers and the possible solution.

I can confirm this works. I have to add that this is not a end solution because with around +/- 160 sheets u have to manually 'copy' all of the sheets.

The perfect solution would be a system where the sheets just regenerate a version in every folder no mather what folder they are in. as long as the model is uploaded in the same folder as before.

This will take a lot of time to manually copy all of the sheets i want to add to another folder.

Is there any change we can get into this deeper?

Thanks in advantage,

Rick de Mooij
