Using the Arnold menu, Arnold --> Volume (aiVolume) is the way to go for volume rendering. That procedural requires a .vdb file. See https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFMUG/OpenVDB+Workflow .

While Arnold can translate a volume through MtoA, it's currently faster (although we hope to improve this!) to render with .vdb, so I would recommend exporting to and rendering a .vdb file for now.

hi is it possible to export a single frame of a cached aero sim to an arnold standin .ass. I can see arnold alembic but that doesn't support volumes

any ideas anyone

The arnold node has changed and the website is out of date re vdb, I sent a sample VDB from bifrost to arnold support so they could check it - as it wasn't working as expected. cheers thomas
