Project Setup - ISA and PIP - projSymbolStyle.dwg

I want to setup a company standard project where we use some of the PIP and some of the ISA symbols. I found that I need to setup two projects, one PIP and the other ISA, to get the projSymbolStyle.dwg for each symbol style. The question arises in that I used the Default Project template to create both projects. I have been assuming that the two setups would use the same projSymbolStyle.dwg, but it seems they don't. When I look in the Default projSymbolStyle.dwg, it appears to be the PIP. So, in Project Setup, and you pick the ISA symbol set, where are these symbols stored and how does the Default Project setup get them into the new project's projSymbolStyle.dwg? I know, it is just a logistic question, but I am very curious.

I'm confused a little as to what you want as an end result but what I have found is this. When you create an ISA project, it creates the blocks apparently in the PROJSYMBOLSTYLE.DWG for you (and it does not in a PIP project). I have both a PIP project and an ISA project. The ISA symbols do not exist in the PIP project but they do exist in the ISA, along with the PIP symbols. Your templateS, as I see it, should be an ISA template and a 2nd template for PIP. But if you need a combination, I would think you need to do an ISA template and then change the symbols in setup to include the PIP symbols. That's my best guess right now.

Yeah Scott, what I am finding is that there isn't "a way" to make a combo-PIP/ISA project by default. But, I have a client that prefers some of the PIP symbols over the ISA, and then vice-versa. So, it seems that I am having to create from Default a PIP project and a ISA project. Then, in my case, I am considering the PIP project to be the Company Standard and adding the ISA symbols from the ISA project to the PIP/Company Standard. I was wondering if there was "a way" to at least have the ISA symbols added into the PIP/Company Standard projSymbolStyle.dwg so that I don't have to keep jumping over to import the symbols in.

Cadwomen: I am big believer in not re-inventing the wheel. So, when I can scarf already drawn blocks, I do, and draw up new ones when needed.

I have had to do something similar. Once you have your PIP/Company Standard with all the ISA symbols imported in, you can use the new "Company Standard" as the project to start new projects from.

The only way I have found to add the ISA symbols into the project in this case is by importing them but once you set it up once you just keep using that project setup for future projects.

what i did to accomplish this is just take one of the projsymbolstyle.dwg drawings and insert it into the other. once that is done you have all of the pip blocks in the ISA or the other way around. then all that needs to be done is the item creation in the project set up using the new blocks. hope this helps
