Pipe Support Details Extraction

We are currently investigating pipe supports and the ability to extract any meaningful information either onto isometrics or project lists to give support rod lengths or stanchion heights so that we can give the client enough information to order from a manufacturer. At present it appears we get the pipe size and a basic description e.g. 3” clamped stanchion. When I have placed hanger supports or the stanchion type I have been able to stretch the support to suit steelwork or floor levels, so lengths can be adjusted. So has there been any further development or methods to get more dimensional / spec information from the OTB products?

This then leads on to the question, are there any known pipe support manufacturers that have Plant 3D compatible catalogues/specs of their products which can be reported for project extraction with specific type details? Or are supports generally intended for additional detailing and to be a manual drawing/data input exercise going through every support one by one?

Not quite - we only do individual details for special purpose, one-off supports. We have a set of standard supports and details for the common stuff. Where there are variable lengths, like a rod length on a hanger, that's included in the general support description. For example, we may have "HANGER, TYPE H-100, L = ____, SEE DETAIL H-100" in the part description. The detail drawing "H-100" is standardized, and is clearly marked what the "L" dimension applies to. A copy of all relevant details are included in the issue set.

You are able to add additional information to the isometric BOM for supports. In fact all properties which are available in the setup node "Plant 3D Class Definitions > Pipe Run Component > Support" can be listed in the BOM. Also custom properties of this class. Of course the properties need a value in the model,

To get this running follow these steps:

Open project setup and switch to the node "Isometric DWG Settings > Title Block and Display"
Select at the top the iso style which you want to change
Click "Setup Title Block..."
Click "Table Setup"
In the dialog select for the BOM layout template "Grouped with independent columns"
Click "Add column..." at the bottom
Check for all categories the columns which you want to see in the BOM later
Select the support property of your need and check it
Close and save all
In Windows Explorer switch to <project folder>\Isometric\<Iso style> and open iso.atr with an editor
Ensure that the new added column will be shown at the bottom of the file in the format Support.<property name>. If not, type it manually in the section BOM-attributes. Save the file.
Now draw a pipe in the model and add a support onto it
Enter the values of the property which you want to see in the BOM

Now create an isometric and should see those properties listed in the BOM. See also the added snapshots.

Is there a way of inserting the values of the part geometry dimensions (for supports) in the BOM?

This way we can sort the exact length of support.

This is what we need too. We need the parametric values from the support that were manipulated by the designer, i.e. "L dimension", and we need it as an accessible property that we can use for part descriptions in the iso bom.

Is there a video showing how to extract the paramater values from the custom script part into the part description as you described? I haven't put and part descriptions into my catalogs that pull data from somewhere yet.
