AutoCAD on the Web - Dimension modifications are not accepted

What settings do we need to adjust to change this to show the correct dimension style? This is one of my students and the drawing should be mm. I tried everything I could think of to create the correct dimensions but I could not get them fixed.

Hi Sarah,

AutoCAD web does not have the ability to create or modify dimension styles. However, if you have a drawing with the correct dimstyle already configured, you can insert it into the Drawing and the dimstyle will come with it. You may want to have an empty DWG with all the styles predefined as a work around.

You as the instructor can create a drawing with a dim or set of dims with the correct dimstyles.
Share to your students and ask to upload to the same storage that their drawing is in.
Ask them to insert that drawing as a block, using the "Browse for blocks" in the Blocks palette.

I understand that your request is regarding changing the dimension style itself, but let me add some additional information in case it would be OK for you to see the correct value in the properties of the dimensions.

1. The UNITS of the drawing have an effect on the "Measurement" attribute of the dimension properties. In the example below the units of the drawing are set to "Decimal" which fits to the dimension value, so the shown value of the dimension "22,98" fits to the properties value "22,9791".

2. In my example I do not agree to "Decimal", open the settings and change the value to "Architectural".

3. This setting does not change the dimension itself, but the "Measurement" value of the dimension properties, which is now shown as 1'-11''.

THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED SINCE MAY?!

How is dimension precision on your web app not THE FIRST THING you get right.

None of these answers are "solutions". I am about to scrap teaching any of my students this program and move totally to Solidworks & Onshape. Both companies offer much better help.

Welcome to the AutoCAD Web App forum.

Thank you for your heads up in this topic and also here "dimension, units, scale... i need help".

I understand this situation is difficult when you want to teach them to create or edit dimensions with the AutoCAD Web App. On this point it is currently a limitation.

When you tach them in general about dimensions and how to use them, you could create a template like @mwn described and share it with the students. This way they can copy the template when they create a new drawing and the pre-defined dimensions are included.

A block in general is not necessary. I just tested the following basic steps on my side:

Create a drawing in AutoCAD Desktop.
Enter DIMSTYLE in the AutoCAD command line.
Edit a dimension style or create a new dimension style with your requirements. On my side I tested with precision = 0.
Save the drawing via SAVETOWEBMOBILE.
The drawing can be opened in the AutoCAD Web App.
Enter DIM to create a new dimension.
Open the properties of the created dimension.
Choose the Dim style that you created and that fits to your conditions.

Just as a follow up, we stopping using and teaching Autodesk completely in my district. The fact that you thought that I would, Install AutoCAD desktop, make a file with my wanted settings for EVERY different scenario of units or precision, save that configuration, upload that to our classroom website, make EVERY STUDENT manually download in install this with no understanding of how the program works is completely insane.

2nd, most actual drawings have more than one precision based on needs so the fact that your Web Based software can't do more than one makes it not worth using.

These "solutions" and lack of actual support was the root cause. We dropped teaching AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit and are now buying software that has actual help and support.

Use Text Edit (te) and make sure to SELECT the text in the dialog box before making size modifications

I purchased autocad web app and want to create a drawing. Are you telling me there is no way to create a dimension style on the web app? How can I use the product if this is the case? Create a drawing without dimensions? I do not have access to autocad desktop.

You CANT! It is the worst product ever.

Try www.onshape.com for online CAD design, they may still have a free trial
option.

I inadvertently created a drawing in Imperial units and have my drawing complete. Can I convert the drawing to Architectural units for dimensions? I do NOT want to have to redraw the entire building. I am using the AutoCAD Web App and evaluating whether I want to purchase this or not. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

@victoriapontedesign Not an option in this low cost web-based meant-for-adjacent-seats-and-casual-users tool AFAIK, but any desktop CAD program, even a trial version of AutoCAD, can fix it for you.

What you see is what is available today March 2024: future updates are likely to add new features, come back often to find out.

there is no choice for showing architectural dimensions. This makes the tool useless for architectural work. no access to desktop or full license. Why would I want to keep this subscription if this isn't available?

Download the imperial dimensions file (2nd down) and open the file in web app through Upload. Then save as your file and work from there. The Dimension units are set up as imperial and there's really no other way to change them from a blank file on the web app:
