How to show solid hatch as black in layout

Hi all,

How do I get a solid white hatched area in the model workspace to show as black in

a drawing? Please see attached for clarity of what I would like to do.

The hydraulic library symbols do it automatically and I would like to recreate this.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find it!

i @DavidTunnard,

Generally, the White/Black color shows as white on dark backgrounds (often Model space) and black on light backgrounds (like Layouts).

If this is not the case, check to see if the layer is frozen in the viewport. To do this enter the viewport, open the Layer Palette and check the Viewport Freeze column. If frozen, unfreeze the layer for this viewport and click OK.

Hi Cheryl,

Firstly, very sorry for the late reply! I have only just checked again on the forums.

I have just had a go and unfrozen the layer, however the hatch colour still does not change depending on which environment they are in.

Hi @DavidTunnard,

I completely understand, better to know how to avoid the issue in the future. I did not find a white hatch that was displaying incorrectly in paper space, but did edit one of your Grouped details.

Please check the circled section which is also detailed on the A4 Landscape (2) layout. I Ugrouped the symbol and arrow heads, then changed the hatch color to White (from the Index colors, not 255,255,255). They seemed to display correctly, so I then grouped them back again to make sure the group was not affecting the color display.

It may be that you were choosing the Color 255,255,255 White instead of the Color 7 White. Color 7 White is unique in that it's designed to be white in model space against a default black background and black against a white layout, or a page when plotted.

Ah hah!

Yes, Changing it to white on the index tab of colors seems to have done the trick! I did not know there was a difference between the colours!

It now appears white on black, and black on white.

Yay!! I'm glad that was what you needed. I don't think it's all that widely known. I think I used the 7 White for years (only because it was easier to grab of the short list) before I used the 255 White and realized there was a difference 🙂
