AUTOCAD 24 AM_Standard Dim Style

I noticed an issue I am having in AutoCAD Mechanical 2024 that I was not having in 2020. When I create a template I create a new dim style. I go into the Dim Style settings of the AM_Standard to change the Base Dim Style to my new style. I then apply and save dwt. When I open up the dwt the Base Dim Style defaults back to the AM_ANSI style.

When I follow the same procedure in Mech 2020, the new dim style remains as the Base Dim Style. Is there some other setting in Mech 2024 I need to change to get the new dim style to remain as Base Dim Style?

Thanks for your question.

Please check if the steps followed to create the template is same as below:

Launch am_ansi.dwt
Invoke cmd: DDIM (DIMSTYLE)
Click New > Give a New Style name say "acm_sample" > Continue
In Modify Dimension Style > make the required changes > OK
In Dimension Style manager > Select the new style "acm_sample" and click "Set Current" > Close
AMOPTIONS > AM: Standards > Under Standard elements > double click "Dimension"
In Dimension Settings > Under Dimension style > Select the new style from pull down > Base dimension style: acm_sample
Check the "Force power dimensions to use this dimension style" > Apply > OK > Apply > OK
Saveas the dwg as template > Saveas: "acm_sample.dwt" > In Template Options > Click OK
Create a new drawing from this new temple.

I have attached a sample template created in ACM 2024 following the above steps.

A follow up to the issue. I now have AutoCAD Mech 2026. I changed the base dim style to MFI_375 and then save the dwt.

However, when I reopen the dwt the base dimension stye reverts back to AM_ANSI.

The same thing happened when I was using Mech 2024.

Here is the last dwt I was working on. The Dim Style should be MFI_375.

Thanks for sharing your dwt file.

When I opened this dwt in AutoCAD Mechanical 2026, it showed as AM_ANSI in dimension settings.

Later I changed to MFI_375 and checked "Force power dimensions ......." > Apply > OK and again saveas to a dwt file.

and when I open this saved dwt it shows MFI_375.

Can you help to please recheck.

I followed the steps you laid out but the base dimension always reverts back to AM_ANSI.

If I open the dwt as a dwt the dim style will use MFI_375 even though the base dim reverted back to AM_ANSI.

However when I open a dwt using QNEW, the dim style default is AM_ANSI.

There must be some sort of default that keeps forcing the base dim to use AM_ANSI when I open a dwt.

To use your template in QNEW, please follow below steps:

AMOPTIONS > Files Tab > Template Settings > Default Template File Name for QNEW > Browse the required template (375_Blank.dwt) > Apply > Ok
Click QNEW to check the new template.

Setting this template as default for QNEW doesn't have anything to do with this issue. When I open the dwt in QNEW it still changes the default DIM_Style to AM_ANSI.

step 1: please make sure in Dimension Style manager (DDIM) > Select MFI_375 and click "Set Current"

step 2: AMOPTIONS > Dimension settings > Base dimension style: MFI_375 > check "Force power dimensions....

step 3: Save this file as a dwt

step 4: AMOPTIONS > file tab > template settings > Default template for Qnew > browse the dwt saved in step 3

step 5: Click QNEW: new drawing is created with the saved dwt.

DDIM style shows MFI_375 as current dimensions style and AMOPTIONS > base dimension style shows: MFI_375

I have the dwt attached here which works good on my machine. please retry. Thanks.

What version of AutoCAD are you using? As I have stated before, I have followed the steps you laid out numerous times. It doesn't work. It didn't work in AutoCAD 2024 and it doesn't work in AutoCAD 2026. The only version I got it to work in was AutoCAD 2020. Unfortunately we just got new computers and IT only loaded AutoCAD 2026.

Note: I downloaded the template. However, when I saved the template (without modifying your changes), the base dim reverted back to AM_ANSI. There has got to be some setting that forces the base dim to reset.

Finally found a solution. I had to set my default profile to <<Vanilla>> then set the default base dim style to my custom style. After saving dwt while in the Vanilla profile, I could switch back to my custom profile. I couldn't figure out what in my custom profile was causing the issue.
