EPSG Codes update

Is there any chance Map 3D can have the EPSG Codes updated please (or any way I can do it myself)? I am using C3D 2018 and there are no codes for several coord systems. Today I need to use "CANA83-3TM120". My REST importer is not correct because EPSG = 0 (not assigned in the catalog).

QGIS reports this system as 3801 - using that code transforms coords correctly.

Are there any EPSG code updates in Map 3D 2020?

Take a look at this post from an Autodesk Employee about NameMapper.csv. I don't know about editing for Map3D's use, but it's sort of a dictionary for the relationships.

What's a "REST importer"?
I just installed 2020 yesterday, so I checked CANA83-3TM120. Nope. Still no EPSG. I don't know of any way to add it. Even Custom Coordinate Systems don't allow you to add the EPSG Code.

Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't work (can't add or change what's available in MAPCSASSIGN).

There are options in the "NameMapper.csv" such as:

3801,16,EPSG,3801,"NAD83 / Alberta 3TM ref merid 120 W",0,0,0,0,,

But, that entry does not show up in MAPCSASSIGN. It's hard to tell what that namemapper does (looks like nothing?).

Thanks for the update.

REST is an acronym for REpresentational State Transfer. It allows servers to stream data to clients.

You can try it if you have some spare time.

I usually use a browser to make sure my requests are valid, check the layers available, and test the data returned.

Browser example: http://ndep-emap.nv.gov/arcgis/rest/services/eMap/MapServer

To hook this up to QGIS:

I've attached a qgis file with the that connection (remove ".txt" extension). Layer->Data Source Manager->ArcGIS Map Server->Nevada and click on "Connect". You should get a list of layers available (same list as the browser).

You can import GIS data using REST.

I like it because IMO it should always be current data - it comes directly from the providers spatial data servers. I beleive SHP could be outdated soon after it's created (snapshot in time as opposed to current status).

You can assign any 'appropriate coordinate system' to modelspace.

In this example, I have assigned Washington State Plane, NAD83, North Zone in US Feet. My WMS connection is using LL84 (EPSG 4326). If I want to EDIT the coordinate system of the WMS, or if Map 3D is unable to determine the coordinate system given to the WMS data by its original author, then I will hover my cursor inside the Data Connect palette (see image-1).

Then, when hovering, a NEW column named Layer CS Code will appear (see image-2).

When I click on a gray area in the new column, I will be able to EDIT the coordinate system.

If I do all this correctly, then the WMS data will be geospatially positioned in modelspace and the WMS layer will appear in the Map Task Pane (see image-3).

Thanks @ChicagoLooper. I have an application that does all of that in the background. The user creates a new dwg from our template and assigns the desired coordinate system. The application provides a list of layers available and imports (transforms) the data. The user does not have to provide any connection information.

I checked at OSGEO - they provide the Osgeo.MapGuide.MgCoordinateSystem API which uses a "GetCatalog" method. The catalog contains the coord systems defined in Map 3D.

Wow! Cool! Thank you. I created a new connection in QGIS and have been playing with it.
A couple of years ago I had an extension called >>>ArcGIS for AutoCAD<<<. I used it when the Bing Imagery wasn't suitable. I'm going to reinstall it and see if I can use the REST data in C3D.

Good! There is quite a variety of data available when you start looking for it. Some of the layers available are raster only.

There is some dicussion on the OSGEO site about NameMapper.csv. It looks like you could possibly modify the CSD files but I don't want to go there.

All WMS is raster.

If you want vector, then you must use WFS.

WMS=Web map service.

WFS=Web feature service.

In that case create a SHP from QGis with some geometry inside that coordinate system. Make sure that SHP as a PRJ also generated.

Use AutoCAD Map 3D command _MAPCONNECT and select that SHP to be attached ... Map 3D will ask you to save that coordinate system in the list of your user specific coordiante systems, ready to be used then.

(that should work well for coordinate systems you don't find in Map 3D).

Thanks @Alfred.NESWADBA. That is what I tried first. But, the data connection coordinate system is set. Map is finding the correct system but it has a different name and no EPSG code.
