Sean,
More details please. Is your map not a DWG, maybe some other format? Screenshots would help.
Dave

I use map 3d with shapefiles to create location plans, but the final drawings need to be modifiable by users who do not have a map 3d license. In standard AutoCAD, map 3d polygon features are "map features" that cannot be edited.

So, I have to use the "Save as AutoCAD Drawing" feature (Task Pane >> Display Manager >> Maps). This results in map 3d polygons becoming a combination of polylines (the polygon boundaries) and hatch objects (the polygon fill).

Only the polylines are needed, the hatch objects serve no purpose (and in some cases there thousands of them) so I was hoping there was a way to prevent them from being created in the first place.

I've tried setting the symbol style in map to be a non-filled polygon, but this makes no difference.

If you remove Fills from the polygon styles in Task Pane >> Display Manager >> Edit Style, the hatches will not appear in dwg:

Hello

Often when I have MPolygons into a DWG, I don't like AT ALL any Hatch inside !

So I select ALL the MPOLYGONs and then I change 2 parameters :

Hatch Pattern = DOTS

Hatch Scale = 9999999

Now I have maybe a micro-point inside the MPolygon or nothing (depending on the Shape) !

And now any ACAD, ACAD LT, ACAD Archi, ACAD MAP, ACAD CIVIL, etc, can "play" with these MPolygons !

The _POLYDISPLAY command to get / see only the boundary of the MPolygons and not the hatch inside is not reliable ! And this command is global / general !!

THE HEALTH, Regards, Patrice

That option named Save as AutoCAD Drawing accessed by the MAPS button at the top of the Task Pane is a watered-down version of an older command which was run through a Wizard (a utility-like procedure requiring a step-by-step process). BTW, the Save as AutoCAD Drawing command is also accessed on the Ribbon: Output Tab=>Map Data Transfer Panel=>Current Map to DWG button.

IMHO, Autodesk dropped the ball on this one. If you hover your cursor on the Current Map to DWG button on the Ribbon and hit F1 you'll get the HELP page. The page clearly mentions the Wizard, yet executing this same Ribbon command only gives you the options to name and save your output. No wizard is provided.

If @Tiana_Y is listening, 'What are your thoughts?'

The old command, BTW this command still works, is MaptoAcad which does give you a wizard. The Help Button at the bottom of this wizard also produces the same Help page as the new command (Current Map to DWG), hence the reason I say 'fumble!' Autodesk not only changed the name of the command, they watered it down too.

Page 1 of the wizard, see image-1.

Image-1.

Now for the really sad part. Sorry, but the wizard in the old command does not give you the option to discard hatch. It gives you other options but not the particular option you want. This means the polygonal parcels and the filled hatch in your output drawing end up on the same layer. If they were on two distinct layers, which they're not, you could simply turn off or freeze the hatch.

To alleviate this situation, click on an individual hatch entity in your output dwg=>Right click and choose Select Similar. (You may have to wait a few seconds for select similar to complete its selection, it depends on the number of objects.) Image-2.

Image-2.

Next, right click a 'blank' area of modelspace=>Isolate Objects=>Isolate Selected Object=>DELETE key. Image-3.

Image-3.

Finally, to end Isolation of Selected Objects=>right click a 'blank' area of modelspace=>Isolate Objects=>End Isolation.
