@john_daues - what do you want those coordinates to be in AutoCAD? A POINT entity? A block inserted at each location? A polyline drawn between each coordinate? Something else?

Here is a lisp file that can do most of that.

I think I would want a point for each and then a surface created from those points.

If you are using plain AutoCAD and you want a TIN or GRID surface made, you'll need some 3rd party software such as this, which will also have tools for importing the ASCII file.

Where is this? City, State?
What are the units? Feet? Meters?

The elevation numbers indicates high altitude.

Thanks for doing that. After seeing your display, I did a ctrl-A and I can see them with that. Not sure why they are not visible not selected.

When a point doesn't show:

What type of point being used?

Or the point is on Defpoints layer and the layer 0 is off or freeze.

Do you run Civil 3D or Map 3D? If yes, then use one of them. Here’s a story:

Two neighbors sustain similar roof damage after a stormy night. The next morning, after the storm has cleared, both neighbors on ladders repairing their roofs. One neighbor is pounding nails with a hammer while the other is pounding nails with a brick. The hammer neighbor politely asks his neighbor why he’s using a brick instead of a hammer. His response is, ‘A brick is just as good and will get the job done.’ The hammering neighbor kindly offers his neighbor his spare hammer. The second declines and both neighbors continue with their repairs. The hammering neighbor finishes at 400pm, takes a shower, eats dinner, then retires to bed.

Later, at 10pm that night, the brick user rings his neighbor’s doorbell. The brick neighbor informs his neighbor he has just finished his roof repair, and despite using a brick, his work looks just as good as his. The sleepy neighbor sighs, gently slams his door and quietly stomps back to bed.

The uploaded csv file in your original post is a PNEZ formatted file, i.e. Point number, Northing, Easting and Z-value (or Elevation). It is one of many formats used to input points when using GIS-esy type of programs. The presence of this file indicates it originated from those familiar with coordinate geometry, or specifically, those with geospatial experience locating points.

Although your csv file can be used in plain vanilla AutoCAD, the PNEZ format is more commonly used in AutoCAD Civil3D and Map3D, both of which can digest ASCII files (no lisp needed) such as, but not limited to, PNEZ format. To use this type of format in vanilla AutoCAD is like using a brick to pound nails into wood. Yes, it’s possible in vanilla Cad, but it’s also awkward and inefficient.

Wow - I hope not or we've all been wasting a lot of time in this thread in the AutoCAD forum, for no reason.

If your brick wielding roofer never again in his life needs to pound in any nails, then the additional cost of the symbolic hammer is probably not worth it. BUT - he could go get a 30-day trial of that hammer to do this one time job. 😉

I've just started using Autocad a month ago (as if that's not obvious).

@john_daues - AutoCAD MAP is a vertical of AutoCAD that includes extra tools. There is a forum especially for AutoCAD MAP, and you would have received different answers there since AutoCAD MAP has these extra tools already built in. We gave you initial answers based on the forum this was posted in (AutoCAD)

Let's see if we can't get someone to move this thread to the AutoCAD MAP forum.
