Retrieving Lat Long coordinates from blocks in .dwg

I have a dwg that has been assigned the UTM 83-15F Coordinate system. I have placed a block with an attribute in various locations on the map. I need to export the lat long insertion points as well as the contents of the attribute.

I am using Map 3D but just started learning it. I was hoping to use data extraction but that will not show the lat long, just the autocad coordinates. Is there a way to do it?

Hi Scott,
Sure not easy. Here's how I would do this:
1. MAPEXPORT a shapefile of the Blocks(Points) converting to LL84 in the Options Tab. In the Data Tab select X1 and Y1.

2. MAPIMPORT the Points into a drawing assigned an LL84 coordinate system.
3. MAPEXPORT the Points, and under the Data Tab select X1 and Y1 in Properties and X1 and Y1 in Object Data. Under Output Field change the names to Long, Lat, East, and North.
4. Drag-n-Drop that Shapefile back into your LL84 Drawing. The Data Table will now have everything you want. You can Copy/Paste or Select All and export to a CSV file.

If I insert a point into the block, I can get the point to export fine, but I am not able to get the attribute to export.

Thanks for posting your drawing.

You don't need to. Blocks export as points with MAPEXPORT, and attributes go along for the ride as Object Data.

OK, a further refinement would be to place your block as part of MAPIMPORT, but here's the shapefile.

Ok, I must have a lot to learn. when I import the SHP file, all I'm getting is the points. What am I missing?

Me too. I'm really close to getting Map 3D to place your block with its attribute, and lats and longs, in the drawing. I'll work on it more this evening.

The block baffles me. In the drawing it looks like this:

In the Block Editor it looks like this:

When I re-MAPIMPORT in the Block Shapefile, all I get is an "X".

Thank you for the spreadsheet. It made my life a lot easier this morning. You do have some great tools. If I was boss, I would definitely look at getting some.

I do think this is the way to go. I played around with it a little bit and got it to work. Then just a quick data extraction and I had my info. Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll be back trying to figure out what all this version can do.

Watch out there are a couple of duplicates in your drawing (like RT102).
