You can use the old fashion "Insert" command the same as inserting a block. Just select the dwg with the OD tables in it, then when asked for the insertion point click the ESC button to cancel out. All the OD tables, blocks, layers etc defined in the inserted dwg will be inserted into the new dwg with out any geometry.

I have defined a bunch of data tables in my drawing. Is there a way to get these into another drawing? I know I can start a new file with the DWT I have which contains these tables, but this is not ideal. I'd love to copy/paste, or export and then import. I'm not now certain of how or if this can be done.

Thanks in advance. i can't seem to find anything with Google so far, though I have seen the question asked.

Hi,

in terms of export/import - if you have attached the table to a line/point etc. you could export that object (_mapexport, as SDF or SHP), including the Map OD data and then import the exported file (_mapimport) including the attribute data. Map will create OD tables.

Copy & and Paste a object which has OD table attached to new drawing - might work as well, never tried.

Rob

A little more information please. What are you wanting to do with data that is un-attached to objects?

In my ODEDIT plugin, there is a ODEDIT_COPY command (Copy definitions from file) for this - see the lasts posts in the topic https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-map-3d-forum/additions-for-object-data/td-p/7548282
OD definitions are directly copied to the active file from the specified dwg, dwt.

Found this thread via a Google Search. Have been using Object Data for the first time this week.

One cautionary note for the future searcher: For Civil3D 2019, post #4 of 6 in this thread does NOT work **IF**, when inserting another .dwg the EXPLODE [] box is checked. If you cancel out of the insert command with EXPLODE [] selected, no object data tables are imported. IF the EXPLODE [] box is NOT selected, then object data tables will still be imported if the INSERT command is cancelled / escaped-out-of.

(This may be the default behaviour for a lot of things when using the INSERT / Cancel technique, but I just discovered the behavior, and am noting it to save some other poor soul hair pulling, weeping, and gnashing of teeth.)
