How to transfer a custom coordinate system to other?

I defined a new coordinate system with _mapcslibrary.

How can I transfer this new custom coordinate system to other PCs? (Are there some files which I can copy to the other PCs?)

We use AutoCAD Map 3D 2016 on Windows 7.

(I found this 2 years old thread. I am not sure if it works with 2016.

Hello Jens,

since Version AutoCAD Map 3D 2014 we have several processes to transfer user defined coordinate system to another PC.

The main change since 2014 is that Geospatial Coordinates System folder will not save any changes have been made in AutoCAD Map UI.

1. Copy files from user folder PC 1 to PC2

All user defined changes are stored into the following folder:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\User Geospatial Coordinate Systems

Copy all files to the same location at PC2

2. Command MAPCSLIBRARYEXPORT/MAPCSLIBRARYIMPORT

The difference is that specified coordinate systems, datum, geodetic transformation and geodetic transformation path can be shared with others.

3. Save DWG with User defined coordinate system and open DWG on second PC

The system will ask you if the new coordinate system should be add to the library (in folder User Geospatial Coordinate Systems)

If you have user defined geodetic transformation and/or path please use suggestion 1 or 2

Is there a method for merging two different custom coordinate system definition files? I would like to merge my custom coordinate definitions with that of another co-worker. We have some definitions that are identical and others that only exist in one of our definition files. Thank you.

Hi,

using the workflow with the drawing ==> define CS in an DWG-file, send the dwg-file to someone else, when he opens this dwg-file the CS will be added to the existing definitions.

Thanks Alfred. That method works well if you only have a few custom coordinate system definitions. Say, for example, you have 100 custom definitions and your co-worker has a hundred and only 25 are common to both. Rather onerus to open 75 drawing files each to make both libraries the same. I think we have all wished for a network deploy of custom coordinate systems. It's been batted around for years. Perhaps I need to post this idea as a wish in AUGI. Thanks again for sthe suggestion.

Sorry, I don't know anyone having that many custom CS definitions.

You might try then to use the workflow with macros (creating 100 drawings each having one of these CS's and on the other system importing them with another macro).

Could it be that it's more a administrative question if you need so many CS's?

We don't acutally have that many; it was just an example. We do, however, work in the western United States, across at least three different large states;so likely have more than the average firm in terms of local coordinate systems. We're located on the very western edge of our pre-defined state plane coordinate system and often use our own local definition to get a better/less distorted model.

I'm hoping that AutoDesk might revisist the idea of a network location for user-defined coodinate systems,
