Hi,

For OD data fields, there is a Point data type with a three-part structure: x, y, z.
But what tools AutoCAD can upload coordinates to Point data fields?

Hi-

I don't think you can populate the OD fields directly from Map 3D with x,y,z coordinates. However, you can export the objects to .shp then select the following ACAD attributes below:

Then you can re-import the .shp with those Object Data Fields populated.

Oh now I see...sorry. I verified the same behavior on my end...strange. I'm not sure why that is an option if it doesn't work 🙂

I did not pay attention to this type of fields Point for a long time. And I did not see the way to use such fields.
I want to know the opinion of the experienced, do you really need this type of fields - Point?

To answer that I would say no, MHO. Back when Object Data was introduced in the first versions I think it was meant to be used to label points and/or to be part of a topology. There are other ways of getting the X,Y, Z of points that are a lot easier than filling out that field manually or creating a lisp to do it.

Still it is interesting: whether it was provided, that OD with Point field could be attached to a polyline or a mpolygon, etc? Instead of to a point/block/text? Also what thus to load in this field?

And, perhaps, they tried to provide data exchange with other systems, where there is also such type of data fields - Point? MySQL, SQL Server, etc.?

OD were designed for manual entry. probably another of those incomplete ideas preempted with SDF files 🙂

Try a SDF file with Geometry type point with "has elevation" checked

add the sdf to the map, open the data table and add the calculation Concat ( X ( Geometry ), ', ', Y ( Geometry ),', ', Z ( Geometry ) ) this creates a TEXT of the x,y,z.

if instead or also you can have three columns X , Y & Z and add the calculation Concat ( X ,', ' , Y ,', ', Z )

you get x,y,z which changes if you move the point.

Save the sdf to a new sdf so the table retains the calculated field. That file becomes you data input file

place the new sdf into the map

when you enter a point the xyz is automatically calculated in the field

points can be entered directly with create a new feature in the RC menu in the traditional x,y,z format or cad points can be used to make a new feature from geometry available in the right click menu in display manager. handy if you import points from an external source such as .csv, etc.

add any other data and check in

mapimport the sdf if you need cad points with OD

rename the attached file to XYZ_Points_2.SDF
